I prefer the temp to be 75 degrees in the summer and 70 in the winter. DH likes it to be 70 in the summer and 68 in the winter. I usually win out though in the winter. But for summer we settle for 72-73

My husband and I squabble about this issue. I turned the gas bill over to him. That did the trick.

cameobride :  I don’t understand why men and women can never seem to agree on the temperature, but it’s certainly a true struggle for hubby and I! It was tough when we first moved into our house together (last January) because I was always cold and we didn’t agree on how high/low we should keep the temperature. I just kept turning it up and he got used to it/got tired of fighting me on it. He’ll still joke and say, “It feels like a sauna in here!” but it’s usually comfortable for me.

When I saw this post, it dawned on me that FI never, ever touches the thermostat.

Me: *sets thermostat to just above freezing*

FI: *shivers* Man, it’s cold in here. Brrr.

Me: *looks at FI* *looks at thermostat directly in front of FI* You can turn the temperature up…

FI: *just sits there* *shivers*

Maybe he’s just that lazy. 😂

cameobride :  My FI grew up in a house that was cold, always. Now that we live together we have made a compromise. My house growing up was always hot. Hot in the summer to save money and warmer than I would like in the winter. Our compromise is 64 in the winter (cold for most, but we save tons on heating cost!) and 68 in the summer (He wants it much colder, but we cant afford the cooling costs!). No one touches the thermostat. If you are hot, take off clothes, if you are cold, put more on. We have a nest too, but then he knows I can see if he changes it 🙂

Fortunately my husband and I are both so frugal that we care more about keeping the heating or AC bill low than our own comfort. I guess we’re lucky in this shared cheapness/masochism. Occasionally, when we realize we’re both cranky and miserable even while huddled under five blankets on the sofa, one of us will suggest turning up the heat a few degrees. Or in the summer if we’re sweating while sitting there wearing practically nothing we might indulge and crank up the AC for a little while. If the pets seem uncomfortable, though, we don’t hesitate to adjust the temperature for their sake, even if we’re leaving the house and won’t be around to enjoy it.

I’m probably the opposite of most everyone on here, but I like it cold in the house, especially at night. He likes it warm  at night and even then he’s bundled up under blankets! I don’t get it.

UGH OMG! DH is all about opening the windows and feeling the “breeze.” Well..we are in NC and I walked past the thermostat yesterday and it was 80 degrees in the house! I about lost it. I am very hot natured and hate feeling stuffy. We also have an issue with the AC in the car. He wants no AC and windows down even when it’s super hot outside. I hate windows down, my hair blowing in my face…The other day the only compromise we could reach was he had his window rolled down and I had the AC pointing to me. Such a waste.

Its seriously gotten to the point to where I just offer to drive because then I control the windows and the AC in the car.

CakeSniffer :  This is us exactly! We keep it comfortable for the pets but mostly sacrifice our own comfort for the heating bill.

Yes! He runs hot so likes to keep it cool in the house. I have learned to accept it and wear warm clothes or a blanket even in the middle of summer.

I’m with PPs. We keep it cold and I cover up and have a heating pad I use to keep warm. I actually prefer the house to be cold now. I hate being hot and just think that I can cover up if I’m cold but my husband can’t really get any cooler if he’s already wearing a t-shirt and shorts around the house and sleeping with only the sheet on.
