That’s funny.  Our high tomorrow is 4, with a wind chill of -25. Plus we got 6 inches last night.

If the wind chill is below 10 they will at times. You have to remember kids still walk to school and those who have to stand at bus stops. Those type of temps are not safe for kids. They do it in Ohio all the time. It seems to be more often then when I was in school!

They have called off school here before because they thought it was going to snow and also for light hail….Oh yeah…they will also shut down school for major sporting events…some school systems are just weird like that lol…

Lindsay – where are you in MO?

We didn’t have school today, but got snow.  Tomorrow our high is 0….so, I’m actually thinking (hoping) they call off school b/c of the cold!!  Can’t have the little ones standing outside waiting for the bus, right?!

17? Wow…we’ve had that for days! our schools are all indoors and heated and we’ve gotten down to like, 5 with a -10 windchill. we still have school unless there’s snow or an ice storm.

Texas shuts down entirely! Not only when it is cold, but when it rains too!

Dude….it was 8 here a couple weeks ago. Fiance had to carry on as normal. That’s so weird! haha. I’ve heard if it gets below a certain point in Austrailia they shut down since they don’t have heaters or something in the schools. haha.

I grew up in Wisconsin – they hardly ever cancel school there, but the policy for canceling due to the cold is only if the wind chill exceeds -40.  If they cancelled school for temps in the teens, we would have had cancelled days practically every other day!  They are so efficient at snow removal too that unless it was a serious blizzard, we had school despite the snow (at least in the cities – rural schools closed more frequently just because of the longer bus routes/more plowing required in order to keep the busses running).

@okqueenbee- My mom works for Tulsa Public Schools and she said they did it because they have over 25,000 students that walk over 2 miles to school and the majority are low income so they can’t afford appropriate clothing/coats to deal with the cold. And I agree, this has been one crazy Oklahoma winter!!
