So we have been married for 3 months now, and are ready to TTC. I went to the OB Gyn today to have my Mirena IUD removed. It’s been in for 2 years. He could see it, but he couldn’t see the strings. He tried different instruments to try and it was so painful. I am supposed to go back in 3 weeks and try again after taking VicoProfen for 24 hours first.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Any suggestions? I had a really hard time with insertion too. I hope this doesn’t mean anything bad with our chances with concieving.

I’m sure it doesn’t have anything to do with your chances of conceiving. I have heard that sometimes the strings go up inside the cervix and more intense retreival methods are necessary. Hopefully they can get it out next time!

I have no advice, but this doesn’t sound fun. However, I googled it and it seems like it’s common that this can’t happen. Don’t panic, I don’t think it will effect you conceiving.

Don’t worry! This just happened to me-my string had gone up and couldn’t be reached by hand. So they gave me some Vicodin (extra strength:) and then basically “went in” and got it out with a special tool. Didn’t hurt thanks to the opiates and it wasn’t bad at all.

We have been looking forward to this day for quite awhile. It meant we could start trying for babies and we were both excited. Today ended up being so disappointing. Thanks for your input ladies.

wow I didnt know that happens I will have to remember that in the future, hopefully the medicine will help. I would say once they get it out you will be good to go, good luck

I am so scared to go in to have it taken out… I really don’t want them to shoot my cervix again 🙁

We are going to try again on the 17th. I’m supposed to pre-medicate with VicoProfen or percocet the night before and morning of removal. I’ll let you know how it goes. If he can’t get it this time I have to be put under to do it. I really want to avoid going to the OR.

Ok, it’s done. I premedicated with Percocet and we tried again on Friday. After a quite painful few minutes the doc was able to get it out. I am so relieved. I’m pretty bummed about the cramps and bleeding I have had the last couple of days but I’m sure it will be short lived. Now on to trying to make babies!!

That’s great that they could get it out! I had the opposite problem. Mine fell out the day after it was put in and now I’m too scared to have it done again.
