Just wanted to come back and update the bees on what happened with my orange wall fiasco incase anyone was wondering!
I deleted the original thread after asking for a refund on the deposit as I was worried that it might affect our chances of getting a refund if they came across the thread as some of the comments about the decor weren’t the nicest (nor were my thoughts!)
So UPDATE is that after a bit of hounding and quite a long wait we recieved a full refund for our deposit! And have rebooked at a new venue that we are over the moon with, so all has ended well 😊

Glad it worked out! I am curious what they said about it in general? Like they knowingly completely changed the venue and weren’t going to update any brides or people who had booked it based on the previous style? Did they have any reaction to you wanting a refund because of the new style? As in, were they surprised the new style wasn’t liked?
Hopefully the did the right thing and updated all their other clients about the changes. Maybe you should leave an updated review on google with updates photos to warn people. Not saying anything mean just showing the new look.

I’m so glad for you that everything turned out for the best, I remember your post! My venue is also doing rennovations, but they made sure to tell all the brides booking and showed mockups and sample materials of the finishes, marble, etc. to make sure everyone knew what they were getting into for 2019!

Okay SO the story is we called on the phone several times and also called into the venue to be told that the owners were away on holidays and would contact us when they got back (we spoke to the staff about the problem), heard nothing so again we went to the venue and asked to speak to the owners, the staff said the owner didn’t start until 6pm so to come back then. Went home and drove out again to be there at 6pm, ask to speak to the owner and finally get to speak to him. To start with he was annoyed that we had come “in the middle of service” and said we should have called him first and we could have “worked it out”. Thought that was quite rude seeing as we had called several times and never been called back, AND staff told us to come back at 6 to see him. And l took a quick glance through the restaurant and saw one single customer sitting there so not like it was busy. But I put my polite face on anyway for the sake of my refund lol. I asked very politely whether there was any possibility of a refund, that I understood it was usually no refunds but in these circumstances I was not asking to cancel my booking because of a change of mind on my end but because they had changed the whole look of the venue and it was no longer what I had booked and paid for. To be honest I was expecting to get a no to the refund, but I was expecting them to offer solutions to keep my business like maybe offering to cover the wall? Or even at least telling me I could get a decorator to do something to cover it at my own expense? But not even that! The owner was really offended that it was going to hurt his wife’s feelings because she had designed the room and said that I was the only bride who was unhappy with the renovations. So I just tried to politely reiterate that I was not at all saying the room was awful or bad renovations or anything, it was just NOT WHAT I BOOKED. It was all quite strange really but he did say he would speak to his wife about a refund. I called a few times after that and heard nothing, so I sent an email to the wife telling her what we had spoken about and that he had indicated he would speak to her about a refund. I eventually recieved a polite, short email back asking for my details to refund my money and they followed through so I give them credit for that, they probably thought I was so much of a pain I was worth the 750 dollars to get me to stop ringing and showing up lol 😊

Thank you for the details!! Sounds like they aren’t very professional. Or are inexperienced business owners. They shouldn’t have a random non designer re- do a space because it’s his wife and to her personal taste. I’m sure they’ll find that out soon enough when no one books the venue. And not letting people know of a huge change for someone’s wedding is very unprofessional and naive. They really thought a bride wouldn’t care that the venue she booked had a different style? Hahahah. Glad you got your refund!! They sound like a nightmare.

I remember the pics, so glad you got a refund and found a new venue!
