I’m a new poster here, but I like to read the posts.
Now I need some advice… I’m getting married at the end of this year. I’m super excited! My Fiance is great.
But his ex isn’t. And they own a house together in florida. They weren’t married, so there wasn’t a divorce decree saying that one of them had to refinance or buy out the other. When they split he moved out, but kept paying half the mortgage for a while, because they were friends. Eventually the ex found somebody new, my Fiance told her that he didn’t want to own property together and they needed to figure out what to do about it. (This was all years ago before I was around.)
She took over full payments on the mortgage and was supposed to get new financing so Fi wasn’t financially responsible for a house he doesn’t live in anymore.
Recently Fiance got a letter form a lawyer that his ex hired – about this property. Apparently she didn’t finish the refinance, so his name is still on the mortgage. And she’s not very happy to find out that he’s happy and getting ready to get married.
Even if she were thrilled that Fiance is happy, I wouldn’t be comfortable with Fiance still being on her mortgage. That’s just not smart.
SOOO… I think we need to hire a lawyer. Unfortunately we live in another state. Can anybody recommend a good real estate lawyer on the Space Coast?
