This isn’t really a man thing, but there a few things that I would like to just get off my chest:
- His dirty clothes never make it in the hamper
- He piles heavy dishes on top of glasswear in the sink
- He presses the snooze button probably 5 times before he actually gets up
- If something is not where it usually is. He does not even bother to look for it. Its lost, gone forever.
- He will not clean his nasty hairs out of the sink after shaving!!!!!!

we will have separate hampers (which he thinks is one of my “redneck” words)
I didn’t grow up as a redneck by any means (one could argue that I am one now, though), and grew up calling it a hamper. What the heck does he think it’s called?
DH and the boyfriend I had previous to him both have this habit of putting stuff that should go in the trash into the kitchen sink. Like the packaging from raw chicken.

After almost seven years of marriage we did it: mine put his ON the lid hamper. Maybe by our silver anniversary he’ll put them in! Yay!

Cutting his nails and leaving them in a nice neat pile… On the coffee table 🙁 or worse still, on a dirty plate in the lounge and not thinking to throw them away so I just pile up the plates and plonk them in the sink (no dishwasher!!) and then find nail clippings floating around in the dish water!!! It is literally like the most gross thing ever!!
On the subject of nail clippings I once swapped desks with a guy at my old job, I cleaned my desk, polish and all because I thought that’s the normal thing to do (a lot of dust had accumulated around all of my desk clutter). Turns out he didnt think the same way and i found out pretty quickly he was a nail biter. The type that bite them off and spit them out. Nails everywhere! Oh and he was also the guy who put his used gum under the desk. He was over 30 years old. Single of course. I shudder just thinking about it!!!

WHY CAN’T THEY USE HAMPERS. This is apparently near-universal! Like… XY chromosome makes you allergic to hampers!

I think that my Fiance would be on here ranting about ME for all of the things I do that annoy him!
The hamper story that a lot of you have – Totally me!
Dishes story – -ME!
I don’t cook, I will clean but he is much better at it than I am, and I am not as neat as him. But I take care of the finances and the other “administration” of the family so it’s a trade off.
I agree with a couple other PPs about it not just being a “man” thing but I do understand that in general these things have historically been male transgressions 🙂

I don’t understand why my husband can’t shut the dresses drawers. Is there any reason why the clothes have to be hanging out?! The drawers were designed to be shut after you take your clothes out! Grr! Gotta love him!

FH has lived here for more than half his life. He lived in Missouri when he was really little; he’s basically just as Southern as I am… but he still thinks I’m a redneck.

I knew it!!!
You’re right…that is weird. lol. But endearing…right? Right??
Sounds like a hit a nerve. I think, a majority of the time, men are worse housekeepers than women is because of this “Oh men…” mentality that they were raised with in their households. Moms, I’ve noticed, are generally easier on their sons when it comes to chores like dishes and laundry.
I’d imagine though, that if my SO was writing this thread it might be something along the lines of: “Things I won’t understand about women: Woman takes shower in front bathroom. Woman picks up all of her clothes– but leaves her bra hanging out where everyone can see it.” SO and I both work full time jobs and do share the housework but it’s a rather new arrangement so we are still getting used to each other’s housekeeping kinks.
IE: He never makes the bed and I was raised in a house where it had to be made every day before school.
He was raised in a household where the kitchen was perpetually spotless whereas I was raised in a house where if the kitchen was clean, it was usually because my parents were out of town.
This wasn’t necessarily a jab at men and their inability to clean up after themselves (though, it’s sort of turned out that way, hasn’t it?) but rather those weird things that your SO does that you wonder if you’ll ever get used to after you two move in.

Mine needs to learn to flush the toilet til everything is gone.

Yup! Nerd leaves his shoes in the middle of the entrance and I trip over them ALL THE TIME!
Nerd does this, too! Although, our dishwasher is messed up so we have to wash them by hand but, I just can not seem to get him to DO the dishes! He’s told me it’s the one chore he loathes. UGH!
The towels! Nerd uses whatever towel is easiest for him to get to. Even if we just used it to dry to dog because we were walking her in the rain. WHAT?!
Nerd is the opposite. He does all laundry together and then, NEVER FOLDS ANYTHING! We’re at the point now where I’ve been do busy with classes that ALL of our clean clothes are in tubs or hampers CLEAN, but getting an wrinkled and it drives me CRAZY but I rarely have time to fold the clothes because I do the rest of the chores like sweeping/mopping/dishes.
Along with the laundry not getting folded, it doesn’t even get put in drawers, folded or not.
But probably worst of all…. when he cooked for himself or for us before we moved in together, he would cook in a pot or pan and then EAT DIRECTLY FROM IT! And even made me do it a few times because he did NOT OWN DISHES! He would also drink out of containers like 2 liters or gallon jugs! Thankfully he has broken both of those habits, but his mom was not happy when she found out he did not own dishes. *facepalm*

Haha. Mine will wash the dishes by hand if I ask him, but his version of letting something soak is to let it sit in dirty water for 4 days!!!

Oh ewww!!!! Nerd does that too! It grosse me out!

I can’t stand it when my SO revs the kids up and they all wrestle and fight play and then he expect them to go to bed 1/2 hour later um not going to happen, but he still does it and few times a week he just doesn’t learn. I love that they play together but not before bed ahhh.

“He will not clean his nasty hairs out of the sink after shaving!!!!!!”
YES! What the heck?!? And then when I kindly remind him to do it, he will grab a hand towel and wipe it up and then put the towel back!!! Like I really want to dry my clean face/hands off on a stubbly/hairy towel?? Bleh. He’s getting better, slowly but surely…
Yeah, I’m bad about putting all my clothes away too – my dirty clothes typically do make it in the hamper, but I’m a pain in the butt about leaving a “pile” of re-wearable clothes on the floor instead of putting them back in my drawers. I’m also known for leaving ‘clean-laundry-piles’ all over instead of putting them away. I just don’t have enough space in my dressers/closets and it’s a pain in the butt to try to squeeze it all back in the right spots!! 🙂
