alfalfasprout10518 :  I haven’t gone wedding dress shopping yet, but yeah I gotta say I was pretty shocked to find I was a size 10-12 for bridesmaids dresses last spring. I typically wear a 6-8..

How heavy, how expensive, how small they run. My wedding dress size was double digits (cringe) when I’m normally a 4

That a a dress with no ‘hanger appeal’ could look totally amazing on.  The bridal consults all pulled dresses that looked unattractive on the hanger but went WOW on a real person!!

alfalfasprout10518 :  I never found this. I’m a street 4 and my wedding dress is also a 4! In fact it fit so perfectly I didn’t need alterations (other than hemming)!

I agree with the sizing, normally a 4-6 and had to get a 12. Also, you can get lost in those suckers. I tried on a few that had to go over my head due to my larger hips and at one point I couldn’t find my way out of the skirt.

I was surprised that most “white” dresses are ivory. The truly white ones looked blue.

I actually find it refreshing that wedding dresses are more true to real sizing! They haven’t given into vanity sizing that so many regular stores have.

Another vote for how heavy they were! I went for the just about the lightest one I could find and it’s still decently heavy

I was surprised at how I liked dresses in the mirror than hated them when I saw myself in a photo of it. And vice versa! Hated in store than loved in pictures.

Peachytalk :  this! I had my friend take photos of me in every dress. I tried on one and was meh about it in the mirror, but it was arguably the one that looked the best in the photos! So weird.

I was surprised at how limited the styles are, in stores. I wanted an A-line, and no matter the store–chain, consignment, etc. there would only be about 2 or 3 a-lines and 129 mermaid styles. I understand that fitted gowns are in style so it’s better to stock more of them, but having a decent variety would’ve been nice.

Why don’t the automatically come with bustles? That pissed me off so much. I need to know how it looks bustled.
