I’m going to Toronto for the day soon. We have dinner plans already but looking to do something during the day. Can’t give too many details, it’s a surprise for someone!
We’re going to have dinner at a restaurant right near the Fashion District. So somewhere 30 mins or so drive around would be great.
I’ve already got H&M and Chinatown for dim sum on my list. On that note any recos for dim sum in Toronto? And the Bata Shoe Museum as an option.
Nothing touristy please.

Oooh there’s a Tim Burton art exhibit at the TIFF Lightbox that I’ve been dying to see!!! What about packing a cooler in the car and hitting the St Lawrence market and stocking up your fridge with awesome cheese, meat, and produce? Or the Distillery District is always really nice. I love having a date day there poking around in the galleries and the Soma chocolate shop (you can watch them make chocolate).

Unfortunately we’re crossing the border. So no picnic lunch. 🙁
Oh Soma Chocolate Shop is an option. We love sweets!

I always love going to the Second City Comedy Club when I’m in TO, sometimes you can get tickets at the door, other times you have to buy in advance depending on the show.

Do you like beer? You could always go for a tour of the Steamwhistle brewery. They also give out free beer samples. They have a fun mini train outside you can ride on, but I doubt it’s open in the winter. That’s fairly close to the Fashion district.
Also if you’re going to Chinatown you might as well go to Kensington Market. It’s got sort of whacky and fun stores to look around in.

Great idea! But their night show starts right around dinner reservation. 🙁 Thanks!
I saw that actually and would love to go back another time and tour it. My husband and I love microbrews. However, the person the surprise is for is not a drinker at all. So anything alcohol related is out.

The problem is so much of the ‘fun’ stuff to do in Toronto (other than shop) is pretty touristy or includes stuff like going to shows. How about skating in Nathan Phillips’ Square? You can rent skates there if you don’t want to bring any. Winter is also harder because there aren’t many festivals and such going on as there is in the summer. Was there anything in particular you were looking for or trying to avoid?
PS – Nice wedding date! 🙂
