@futuremrsk18:  I know, I’m so sad that it’s not a “thing” on the West Coast. I feel so deprived.

I learned about:

save the dates

First look

Grooms cake

Boudior pics

Buying separate dresses for each pre-wedding event (shower dress, engagement dress, etc)

Being so in the know about diamonds (sixe, color, clarit, etc).

Candy bar/buffte

Cocktail hour

DIY (i am crafty but didn’t think there was such as thing as a diy bride or wedding)

Viennese table/hour?

How much is expected?not expected from wedding party

All the weding ‘ettiquette’ rules sheeseh

And I am sure there is more… some I like and have incorporated in my wedding and sure have driven the price up, others I can leave.

I’m from Australia, so I don’t know if these are cultural issues, or just my own ignorance.

  • Save-The-Date Cards – like so many others, I just figured there were a lot of diseased people on the Bee. I got so freaked out at headings like “Check out pictures of my STDs!” or “I’ve sent out all the STDs!” before I realised what it was. Still have a bit of chuckle at it now, though
  • Bridal showers – people still do that?? I thought it was only in movies or the days when women lived with their parents until they were married
  • Bridesmaids expected to do more than just show up on the day
  • That people would actually want weddings without children

Obviously there are others, more like cultural/regional differences (e.g. dollar dances, etc.) but those are probably the main ones that really confused me at first.

Moissanite, First Look pictures and Doing something cutesy to ask someone to be in your Bridal Party.  There are probably many more but these are the top three.

I never knew that people cared what others did for their wedding enough to judge them for it, or that people care what others think on a day that is supposed to be representative of the people getting married, not the people invited.

Moissanite- well I’ve heard of this but didn’t know it had a name.  I have friends who have these.

Diamond Candles – still have no idea what this is.

Chinese Knock offs – why would you want to buy a knock off?  I’d be afraid it would fall apart on my wedding day and then I’m SOL.  I want to have someone accountable for anything wrong with my dress.

Things I have heard of:

Mini moons- although I don’t know the point

Trash the Dress – I think the pics are cool but I want to pass my dress down to my daughters and in any case being someone who is paying for the wedding herself (with FI) as well as a cancer survivor I like the idea of donation to someone in need better.

STD – my family is all out of state and its just courtesy to give out of town guests a good heads up so they can take off work if needed.  If guests are close Save-The-Date Cards are not necessary but some people do these for fun (I guess).

Dessert only reception

Cash Bar – depends on the couple I guess.  I’ve been to several weddings with cash bars but a lot that had open bars too.

No kids allowed

I’ve heard of it all I suppose lol.  Somethings we are doing, others I don’t see the point but times have changed so to each their own.

~ 1st looks

~ that putting registry info in the invitations is rude (I think every wedding invitation I’ve gotten has had the registry info included)

~ Broach bouquets

~ paper bouquets

~ Masonite rings

~ bridal portraits

~ a lot of stuff on the ettiquette board

~that gaps aren’t common everywhere (every wedding that I’ve been to has had a gap between the ceremony & reception!)

~a lot about wedding bands (stack-ables, ect)

~and so much more…

@mandypop:  Moissanite or asha… I had nooo clue.

I also had no idea that regular chicks have dress regret and would actually buy a second dress. I thought only the reality shows did that.

I learned the term ‘ring porn’ lol.
