I never heard of:

1. Moissanite (well very briefly)

2. The Amora gem that is all the rage due to come out in 2015

3.  “cash” bars that offer 2-3 tickets per person (I find this one so interesting)

4. All of the insane abbreviations (still not 100% what Darling Husband means)

5. Broach bouquets

6. wedding classifieds (amaze-balls!)

7. Chinese knock-offs (this has GOT to be my favorite)

8. and of course RING PORN!

I was completely unaware of:

moissanite

chinese replica dresses

the dollar dance

bridal portraits

Many of the other things everyone has listed aren’t really done around here or I haven’t seen personally, but I at least had some vague awareness of them.

Around here, cocktail hours, open bars and plated dinners are standard. Buffets and cash bars aren’t unheard of, but open bars and plated dinners are considered more classy. The best cocktail hour I ever went to had a raw bar too, YUUUUUM!

Raised in Southern California and family is from South America. Also, I am just now learning about ring lingo, etc because my friends are now starting to get engaged and married. We are all a couple years shy of 30.

I didn’t know  of until this post:

  •  bridal portraits

  • “Personal Attendants”

  • Moissanite

  •  brides having input/concern in what anyone other than the bridal party wears

  • inviting a seperate group of people to come after dinner has been served

  • “Trash the Dress”

  • parties to open your wedding gifts the day after the wedding

Things I just heard of and STILL don’t know what they are or understand:

  • Viennese hour

  • Mashed potato bars????

  • Strassing shoes

  • Grooms cake

  • honeymoon registries

  • Escorts at bachelor parties (really?!?)

Adding some more:

  • Elopement packages

  • “WeddingMoons” – though, that’s what we may be doing

I hadn’t heard of MOSTLY EVERYTHING until the bee! Aside from being a younger bride and just not knowing (I’ll be 24 on the day) I am the first of all my close friends and family to get married. I was literally CLUELESS about 90% of this stuff.

– that carat size matters – didn’t know so many people even cared. i didn’t know what it was it was just A RING. Size was never mentioned. everyone i knew had about the same size.  came on here and realized that i have a “small” diamond. I thought it was average before this.

-that so many people pick their own ring nowadays. i knew ppl did it but i thought it was rare.

– bridal portraits. Although I heard it was a southern thing though and i was raise in the northeast so i guess thats why. Although i still don’t understand how they are at all practical.

– anything in etiquette – although i still don’t care about half of it.

@Araya:   Boxing Day is the day after Christmas, so called because you boxed unwanted presents. And a Hens is what we call a bachelorette party in Australia. The groom has a bucks party.

@binniem:  I thought it was called Boxing Day because it’s a big shopping day and there’s a lot of people out and you have to practically box people to get the good deals.  Kind of like Black Friday after Thanksgiving.  ??

@E_Lynne615:  That seems to be what it is now! Boxing Day has been a traditional day for a lot longer than the sales have been around though.

Let’s see:

-Moissanite (really glad I found out about it– I love it)

-Trash the Dress (ugh)

-First Look

-Boudoir photos

-Strassing shoes

-Chinese replica dresses

-Waiting as a status for a relationship, as someone said above!

Also, probably a lot of other things I can’t remember. I didn’t know much about the whole engagement/wedding process before discovering this website. Unfortunately, I think it has both educated me and made me more obsessed with getting engaged than I would otherwise be.
