The back of the dress! I was so enamored with it that I didn’t realize the deep V back means I can’t wear a normal bra. It probably wouldn’t have changed my decision too much, as there are of course ways to get support without a real bra, but it’s one more thing to worry about that I kind of wish I didn’t have to.

The weight of a dress. No matter what style it is, if its too heavy it will be uncomfortable. I almost went with a very heavy full lace dress (I’m getting married in June on the beach in Belize) and I can’t imagine how hot and uncomfortable I would be in it. I ended up going back and getting a different and much lighter dress that I know I won’t sweat to death in.

I wish I’d realized to look at the collections from designers before I went. I discovered so many beautiful dresses I knew nothing about only after the fact, and never got the chance to try them on. Essentially I went in blind and got the first thing that felt “a-okay”. Now I’m walking my regret dress down the aisle.

So if you don’t have a vision in mind, or a favorite designer, or styles you’ve already scouted online, I recommend doing that first.

The closure of the dress. I never thought too much about how it closed until after the fact and I wished my dress had a corset.
