To neutralize your PH try some fresh squeezed lemon water!
To neutralize your PH try some fresh squeezed lemon water!
I think the brufen and paracetamol has kicked in (or maybe it’s the copious amount of water, or both) – I don’t feel like I have to pee every 5 minutes now. But I’m still scared to go pee, because of the pain. I don’t know what to do. I feel like this ‘loss of sensation’ is actually just a security lull, and that it’ll hurt likea biatch when I pee.
I hate being ill, it makes me so irrational. And I’m a little scared of having sex again, even though I freaking love it.
But if someone could clear up for me please – why DOES it hurt to pee? Is it a pH issue caused by the bacteria? If so, if Na citrate is required to neutralise it (an acid), does that mean the bacteria somehow make the urine too alkaline? Or REALLY acidic and the citrate is just a weaker acid that acts as a base? Or is it caused by the presence of the blood in the urine?
And where does the blood come from too? I’m peeing so much blood it’s super weird, I was so happy when I thought it was my period before I realised wtf was going on lol
You HAVE to keep drinking a ton of water and peeing because that helps flush your system.. if you hold it in, you’re only holding the bacteria in. UTIS are funny because there’s a million different ways you can get it besides just sex. For example, tight jeans, wet swimsuit, not peeing when you need to, etc. And it really isnt that strange that that it “popped up” after only two months. Two months isnt really that long a stretch of time for it to suprise you. The first and only time I ever got a UTI was after NINE years of being with my guy.
I think you just need to go through urgent care or ER because if you’re peeing blood, it’s gotten more serious. Its actually a really simple procedure cause they deal with this so often. They’ll do a simple urine test to figure out where you are and send you home with either 3, 5, 7 or more day regimen depending on what shows up in the urine test. If the urine test shows that its gotten serious, then they may need to monitor you longer.
I know you’re used to getting antibiotics from your parents, which is fine, but don’t just take them without seeing a doctor to find out how far it has spread. You need to have a urine test done to figure out how far along the infection has progressed and you need to know how serious it is. If you’re peeing enough blood to confuse it for being your period, you have to know how far it has spread.
Please go to the ER and pee for them, they can do a quick test & get you on fast acting antibiotics. YOU have an infection that will not clear up on it’s own. In fact, it will get worse & continue to attack your bladder & urinary track & can eventually lead to kidney failure. Trust me. I’ve been there. SEVERAL TIMES! Blood is a sign that it has already gone too far. PLEASE go to the ER or a Dr immediately.
But it is strange because I’ve never ever gotten them ever before. Even when I’ve had copious amounts of sex beforehand, and with the ex’s, I’ve never gotten one. I think it is because I’ve been fighting off everything else (thanks crap food and chest infections!), my body is just run down at the moment and susceptible to infections.
I am quite bad about my pee habits, I don’t go unless I absolutely HAVE to go, and I don’t pee before/after sex. I think it was bound to happen at some point.
Our ERs here don’t deal with this, this is more for the out-of-hours clinics which the GPs run. But there aren’t any in my area and the GP I’m registered with in London doesn’t do out of hours… at least mum and dad will sort it out, they’ve said they want to keep me home for a few days to monitor me (until at least Friday), I guess to make sure it doesn’t develop into something worse.
Feels much better rationalising about it all. Cannot believe I started crying, good grief, I feel like an imbecile. And I know I have to go pee at some point, I just really don’t want to because I’m (irrationally) scared. :/ Blah.
lots and LOTS of cranberry juice and water. I usually try to drink a whole glass of one of those, wait twenty minutes (through the pain and urge to go to the bathroom) and then go to the bathroom. Also, there are some UTI pain relievers at the drug store, since i found that Ibproufon does not help that much. Try your best to keep your mind off of it by watching a movie or reading a book. UTIs are so annoying, I have grown up having a UTI almost every other month.
In answer to your question as to why it hurts to pee…the infection typically causes your urethra to become inflamed. In my experience, typically the pain goes away within 8 hours of starting antibiotics; also, like PP have said, drinking unfiltered cranberry juice can help quite a bit.
Buy Azo Cranberry pills and drink tons of water. Try to get some rest my whole body was sore from when I had a UTI.
Started on antibiotics as soon as I got home – amoxycillin to be exact. Thank science for antibiotics! Should be completely sorted out by Wednesday
I found that taking a crapload of paracetamol and ibuprofen helped SO much, as well as drinking a lot of water – it eliminated the pain, though not the strange feeling when I peed.
Learnt my lesson – shedloads of sex is totally ok, as long as I pee before and after each session… And that if it happens again, to take loads of ibuprofen and paracetamol, as well as drink a lot of water!
Glad you are feeling better! I used to have awful recurring UTI’s when I first became sexually active. Good ol’ “honeymoon cystitis.” I had UTi’s over and over again for like 8 months. It was hell!
Peeing before and after sex is the bet way to keep things at bay. Drinking cranberry juice will also help prevent UTI’s but won’t actually cure them! I hope that you don’t have any more of those nasty infections!
I’m glad you’re feeling better! I’ve never dealt with one but my roommate in college used to get them so she drank cranberry juice like it was going out of style. It’s supposed to help prevent them (the no sugar added kind, not a cocktail). I believe there are supplements that have the same effect without the bitter taste if cranberry juice isn’t your thing.
I am so glad it was sorted out for you….I dealt with those for a whole year before I figured out what worked for me in preventing them. I can say that peeing before and after sex is the number one most important thing! I have only had 2 UTIs since my terrible year (which was 5 years ago), and it was because I held my pee for too long…so make sure you also don’t hold your pee for a long period of time! But yes the ONLY way to get rid of them is with antibiotics…you can’t just drink lots of fluid and flush it out lol although that would be nice if it were true…So from now on the second anything feels fishy when you’re peeing, just get the antibiotics as soon as you can and take pain relievers in the meantime. I hope you never get another one, but at least if you do you will know what to do now!
