You HAVE to keep drinking a ton of water and peeing because that helps flush your system.. if you hold it in, you’re only holding the bacteria in.  UTIS are funny because there’s a million different ways you can get it besides just sex.  For example, tight jeans, wet swimsuit, not peeing when you need to, etc.  And it really isnt that strange that that it “popped up” after only two months.  Two months isnt really that long a stretch of time for it to suprise you.   The first and only time I ever got a UTI was after NINE years of being with my guy.

I think you just need to go through urgent care or ER because if you’re peeing blood, it’s gotten more serious. Its actually a really simple procedure cause they deal with this so often.  They’ll do a simple urine test to figure out where you are and send you home with either 3, 5, 7 or more day regimen depending on what shows up in the urine test.  If the urine test shows that its gotten serious, then they may need to monitor you longer.

I know you’re used to getting antibiotics from your parents, which is fine, but don’t just take them without seeing a doctor to find out how far it has spread.  You need to have a urine test done to figure out how far along the infection has progressed and you need to know how serious it is.  If you’re peeing enough blood to confuse it for being your period, you have to know how far it has spread.

@OrchidsandCandles:  Also, I don’t know why it hurst to pee, but i do know the reason they recommend drinking cranberry juice because it helps kill off the bacteria and flush out your system.  My guess for why it hurts would simply be due to the infection causing the urinary tract to be inflamed.  Do keep drinking lots of water though because it does help flush out the bacteria in your bladder.

Please go to the ER and pee for them, they can do a quick test & get you on fast acting antibiotics. YOU have an infection that will not clear up on it’s own. In fact, it will get worse & continue to attack your bladder & urinary track & can eventually lead to kidney failure. Trust me. I’ve been there. SEVERAL TIMES! Blood is a sign that it has already gone too far. PLEASE go to the ER or a Dr immediately.

lots and LOTS of cranberry juice and water. I usually try to drink a whole glass of one of those, wait twenty minutes (through the pain and urge to go to the bathroom) and then go to the bathroom. Also, there are some UTI pain relievers at the drug store, since i found that Ibproufon does not help that much. Try your best to keep your mind off of it by watching a movie or reading a book. UTIs are so annoying, I have grown up having a UTI almost every other month.

In answer to your question as to why it hurts to pee…the infection typically causes your urethra to become inflamed. In my experience, typically the pain goes away within 8 hours of starting antibiotics; also, like PP have said, drinking unfiltered cranberry juice can help quite a bit.

Glad you are feeling better! I used to have awful recurring UTI’s when I first became sexually active. Good ol’ “honeymoon cystitis.” I had UTi’s over and over again for like 8 months. It was hell!

Peeing before and after sex is the bet way to keep things at bay. Drinking cranberry juice will also help prevent UTI’s but won’t actually cure them! I hope that you don’t have any more of those nasty infections!

I’m glad you’re feeling better! I’ve never dealt with one but my roommate in college used to get them so she drank cranberry juice like it was going out of style. It’s supposed to help prevent them (the no sugar added kind, not a cocktail). I believe there are supplements that have the same effect without the bitter taste if cranberry juice isn’t your thing.

I am so glad it was sorted out for you….I dealt with those for a whole year before I figured out what worked for me in preventing them. I can say that peeing before and after sex is the number one most important thing! I have only had 2 UTIs since my terrible year (which was 5 years ago), and it was because I held my pee for too long…so make sure you also don’t hold your pee for a long period of time! But yes the ONLY way to get rid of them is with antibiotics…you can’t just drink lots of fluid and flush it out lol although that would be nice if it were true…So from now on the second anything feels fishy when you’re peeing, just get the antibiotics as soon as you can and take pain relievers in the meantime. I hope you never get another one, but at least if you do you will know what to do now!
