You should be able to send your ticket in to request a court date where you can explain yourself. Usually if you go in, they will at the least reduce the fine. You could also get a lawyer to fight it, but you would probably have to pay him or her the $200 anyway, but it could end up not being put on your driving record, so your insurance doesn’t go up.

That stinks!  It sounds like exactly what happened to my Mom in New Jersey once, a cop tailgated her and traffic was fairly heavy so all she could do was speed up to try to get away from him (she didn’t know he was a cop, he was also in an unmarked car) and he then busted her for speeding.

I love cops – they risk their lives to protect us!  But it’s a shame that some of them choose to abuse their power.   Frown

I’m sorry this happened to you!  Sending you HUGS!

He probably just mentioned the speeding to distract you from what he was ticketing you for.  Basically you should have slowed and passed behind him.  I’m not saying the ticket is fair (actually I think that was a super jerk move on his part!!) but I’m guilty of doing the same thing ALL the time, even though I know I shouldn’t.  He probably ticketed you for failure to yield or unsafe driving practices.  Both are obscure laws that most people break!

OMG. I can so totally see me doing this.  That sucks.  Yeah, I don’t know if you can fight this thing.

I’ve heard that if you go to court, they usually just make you pay and not get the points.

I did this once and the cop didnt show up at my court date and I just had to pay the fine and no points.

If I got another ticket, I don’t think I would want to do that again.  Because knowing my luck, he will show up and I will have to prove something. :/

Then again, it is the end of the month.  They will proably try anything to pull you over.

I’m sorry you got stopped. I would try to fight it and if that doesn’t work take defensive driving so that your insurance won’t go up.

Blerg.  That does sound unfair.  I’m sorry!
