1. Where do you recommend buying it? We got it from MoissaniteCo and couldnt recommend it more! Their customer service is fantastic (even with my 5 million emails i sent to ask questions! )

2. What made you decide on Moissanite? I love the history of Moissanite and the ethical standpoint. I couldnt justify spending so much on a sparkly stone when there was a beautiful alternative.

3. Are you satisfied with your ring? Absolutely! I wouldnt change my stone for anything!!!

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond? I do share that it is a Moissanite for those who ask. I havent received a negative feedback to this yet! My family thinks its amazing that I went with Moissanite. For those who just comment on how gorgeous it is, I just say “Thank you”!

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones? Mine is a 1.5 carat Amora enhanced stone and I love it! I still get a small teeny bit of color on cloudy days but I think its what makes the stone beautiful and unique!

1. Where do you recommend buying it?

My ring was bought through Moissanite Co. It’s the only place I hinted to my Fiance to buy from, but he apparently talked to local jewelers in NYC and was not as impressed.

2. What made you decide on Moissanite?

I wanted the look of a diamond/moissanite/white sapphire but was not comfortable having my Fiance spend too much money on me. Plus, I would not be comfortable being responsible for anything that is many thousands of dollars for fear that I would be mugged! Possibly a weird fear, but a real fear of mine nonetheless.

3. Are you satisfied with your ring?

I love my ring. The band is a bit thinner than it looks in the picture online (http://www.moissaniteco.com/round-moissanite-semieternity-engagement-ring-020ct-p-11715.html) but it is truly beautiful.

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond?

Only my jeweler knows at this point. If someone questioned it I’d have no problem, but it hasn’t come up anywhere else.

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones?

I have the mira enhancement, now called amora, and it looks great. I can’t compare to a non-enhanced but I figured since we were getting such a big bargain overall that spending a bit more to ensure it was as sparkly as possible couldn’t hurt!

Size 7 finger, but not sure if it’s 1 or 1.25 carat equivalent.

1. Where do you recommend buying it?

Moissanite CO

2. What made you decide on Moissanite?

I never wanted a diamond. I wanted a blue sapphire. Fiance didn’t want something colored. Moissanite was a great compromise!

3. Are you satisfied with your ring?

Absolutely!

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond?

Not unless they ask. Which no one has.

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones?

Yes

I bought mine through moissco. I had a bit of a negative experience with them but I don’t really want to get into that. I went with moissy because I think diamond prices are just ridiculous and I wanted a conflict free stone. I do not tell people it is a moissy. We went with a 1ct which is a very believable size for us. It is a Mira, I have never seen any other moissy so I cannot really say if you should get enhanced or not.

1. Where do you recommend buying it? – moissaniteco.com

2. What made you decide on Moissanite? – THIS board! i had only briefly heard info on it watching gem shopping and looked into more bc i knew i wanted a certain look and w/ economy and a wedding and a home and etc to pay for $40,000 on a ring was just not logical at all

3. Are you satisfied with your ring? – sooooo very satisfied

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond? – 9 outta 10 i do NOT. i being the only girl inherited my grandmothers vast and expensive jewelry collection, lucky for me. i tell ppl that comment on it that it was a loose stone my grandmother never set. noone questions that. the first jeweler that i took my ring to be set said his insurance wouldnt cover me if something happened to it so he couldnt do the work… my fiance was w/ me and before i could tell him that it was moissy, he stopped me and said thanks… he was so pleased bc before this he was embarrassed/ ashamed that he bought me a stone that was not a diamond.

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones? – i (he) bought a 2.5ct cushion from mc.com and i (he) paid the extra $400 for the MIRA finish… i would most definately recommend it… the size and cut i got is rated a J… as my mom said “i wouldnt even buy accent stones in a J” so if the MIRA is a J i shudder to think what a NON-MIRA stone is rated… …. that said i have only had TWO (2) experiences where i went to show the ring to someone and it was not a bright vibrant white… both times i was outside on a cloudy rainy dismal day… the stone did have a yellowish tint to it which was prob amplified by my diamond halo in white gold… however it wasnt end of the world as both of those times i was showing someone that i had already told it was moissy

at the end of the day i FULLY recommend moissanite, moissaniteco.com and the MIRA finish over its diamond equivelant… smart shoppers go for fit and the look of a garment over the designer label inside… thats all a diamond is compared to moissy… and NOONE is gonna take your ring off and hold it to the light to find the forever mark … a little about the below pic… it is taken outside on a crappy winter rainy day… the light hitting the ring tho is a florescent one above me on the patio

Thanks ladies! This thread was very helpful! I heard about moissy through this board and my Fiance and I are looking at one this weekend that our jeweler got in for us. Should there be a problem with color in 0.5ct?

@faythe, I have a .50 ct unenhanced moissanite pendant and it is pretty white, noticeably whiter than a 1 carat unenhanced moissanite ring I have. I will try to take some pics and post tonight.

@Faythe: There shouldn’t be a color problem with half carat. Moissanites bigger than 1 CT are said to show faint yellow or green at times but if you can see the color and don’t like it, you can always look into Mira/Amora which supposedly don’t show color at all (I say supposedly because I haven’t seen one in person but any Mira/Amora owns can probably help you more with that). You can look at those at MoissaniteCo and BetterThanDiamond.

Just a suggestion, when looking at moissanite at a jewelry store, make sure to ask how old the stock is. Older stock wasn’t stable enough and would change color over time. Newer moissanite does not do that and if your jeweler specifically got it for you it should be new but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

I’m actually waiting for mine! My FH proposed with a diamond in October after I asked him to please get me a moissanite. He thought I was joking and he let his sisters tell him that if it wasn’t a diamond, then it isn’t as important and later in life I will hate him. So he bought a 1.5 diamond I accepted, but didn’t say anything. I promise I did not look disappointed. He said he knew when the ring came in I might not be happy, but he didn’t want to wait any longer. As soon as I said yes, he said we could take the diamond back and get a moissanite.
So I’m waiting for my 1.5 ct moissanite.

1. Where do you recommend buying it? We ordered from moissaniteco.com I’ve been lurking and there are so many bees on the site with beautiful rings from them.

2. What made you decide on Moissanite? I think it’s prettier than a diamond and it sparkles more. I also like the history behind it even though it’s created in a lab now, but it doesn’t bother me. The industry isn’t corrupt and I know the people who created my moissanite have health benefits unlike the poor people who go to work in dangerous conditions with no union to protect them.

3. Are you satisfied with your ring? I know I will be! I’ve seen some in real life at a bee meetup!

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond? I don’t have it yet, but I plan on telling whoever will listen that it’s not a diamond.

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones? We got the MIRA. Can’t wait!

@moonadea and @noenyu

Thanks! That’s helpful and good to know!

One more question, when my Fiance called and asked him to order one for us to see, they said moissanite was not heat resistant. Now I had thought I’d read that moissy was more heat resistant than a diamond?

@Faythe: It is more heat resistant. Sometimes jewelers don’t know everything about moissanite or don’t like it and will try to push towards diamond. Not saying that’s the case here, but it could be a possibility. It’s good to go in with as much knowledge of moissanite (or any other gemstone) as you can when purchasing one.
