@nycfashionista:

1. Where do you recommend buying it? Just like many others here, I bought mine from MoissaniteCo…they are very helpful and good at responding to any questions/custom changes you may want (I wanted yellow gold with a palladium head/prongs, and they were able to make just what I wanted!)

2. What made you decide on Moissanite? I didn’t really want a diamond, and looked around at man-made diamonds first, then found Asha, then found moissanite. I debated btw Asha and moissanite for a long time, but in the end the story of moissanite and the number of people who loved it on weddingbee was what sold me ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Are you satisfied with your ring? I LOVE my ring… I’ve had it for about 4 months now and I still find myself just staring at its sparkliness!!

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond? Yes, and actually everyone has been really interested in moissanite. I haven’t gotten any kind of weird or rude judgmental comments, which is aweseome ๐Ÿ™‚

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones? Mine is enhanced, so I would say yes, but I don’t have any that are non-enhanced for comparison so I can’t truly say one way or the other.

Pictures!! It’s a size 5.25 yellow gold with palladium prongs enhanced (the old enhanced process that’s now discontinued) 6mm (.75 carat equivalent) moissanite…it matches in size more to 1 carat than the .75 carat though. It took a while to get used to it being bigger than expected, but I guess I’ll live Wink Now I think it’s the perfect size (isn’t it funny how that happens?). It’s this ring from the website.

1. Where do you recommend buying it?
Fiance got mine at MoissaniteCo. He had a great experience with their customer service. They also have a fabulous selection! Before I got engaged, I was on there all the time drooling over the options!

2. What made you decide on Moissanite?
There was nothing unethical about it, and that was really most important. Furthermore, I love Moissanite’s history, and since Fiance and I are both scientists (he’s an aerospace engineer, I’m a physicist/teacher), it was right up our alley.

Also, I am a sparkle fiend, and Moissanite was the sparkliest. It is nearly as hard as diamond, just as durable, and has that engagement-y look, and the price was also very attractive. You can’t live in a diamond. You can live in a house.

3. Are you satisfied with your ring?
We are SO satisified. I just love the way it sparkles, and it has held up really nicely since we got engaged. I also get a ton of compliments all the time from complete strangers. I basically can’t go to a grocery store without someone noticing it.

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond?
Our families and close friends know, and they all thought it was very cool. Both our parents congratulated us on making a financially smart move. Generally though, I employ a don’t ask, don’t tell policy. I’m not going to lie if someone does ask, but I’m also not going to wear a “It’s a moissanite, not a diamond” t-shirt and yell that from a bullhorn either.

I’ve never had anybody ask, since to the untrained eye, they look very similar. The only thing I run into is people commenting (sometimes rudely) on its size. I live in the Midwest, and my ring is noticeably larger than the average e-ring here.

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones?
I can’t say either way. Mine is a 1.5 equivalent size, and it is unenhanced. Very rarely do I notice any color. If I do see the slightest tinge of yellow or green, it’s when I’m wearing one of those colors on a cloudy day. This is not something that bothers me though, since it’s just one of the cool properties of the stone. Almost all the time though, it’s a bright white sparklefest.

Pictures: I don’t have a great picture, but I like sharing anyway…

Does anyone have their moissanite set in a diamond engagement band?  I wonder if the diamonds & moissanite gem conflict or look too different?

@reeree09: I have a plain band moissanite solitaire, but if you scroll up a bit and look at my pictures, my wedding band is a diamond wedding band. I personally don’t feel that they conflict though they may be a little different.

1. Where do you recommend buying it? Like the majority of bees, I purchased from MoissaniteCo.

2. What made you decide on Moissanite? Price and the sparklies on this website. I went to a jewellers to try on a diamond ring that was at the top of our budget, and it was dull, small and looked ridiculous on my finger. Reading all the posts on here I found I could have my sparkly for midrange of my budget! ๐Ÿ˜€

3. Are you satisfied with your ring? 100%! Just want my man to propose now so I can wear it 24/7!

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond? I haven’t been wearing it for people to ask, but I won’t be telling. I think it’s really insulting, no one would ask if that was a real gemstone ring, but just because it’s colourless it *has* to be a diamond?

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones? Mine is enhanced, and I would recommend it, yes. In the end, since we were getting such a good deal, I thought I might as well.

Pics!

1. Where do you recommend buying it?  We got mine from an eBay store called Premier Moissanite. It’s run by a fairly famous jeweler. Nothing but good things to say about that experience. He also does custom work with moissanite, in case you want to go that route (my ring was custom).

2. What made you decide on Moissanite?  Cost, ethics, durability, bling factor, and the astronomical implications since my husband and I both love astronomy and met in an astronomy-related event.

3. Are you satisfied with your ring?  Couldn’t be more satisfied.

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond?  Yes.

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones?  I have a 1 ct unenhanced stone. Honestly don’t see much of a difference between my stone and the Mira/Amora ones. It seems if you’re going with a cut other than round brilliant, especially in the larger carat sizes, it might be worth the upgrade.

Good luck!

Canadianmermaid: Lol no I think it just looks bigger in these pics for some reason. Also I lost weight since my Fiance proposed and I went down a ring size.

I’ve recently ordered a 1.25 Amora (enhanced) moissanite from BTD set in a Tiffany repro.  Customer service has been excellent so far. I don’t have it yet (mid March?) but I’ll check in again then to let you know how it goes. I’m curious to know if others have bought their Amora moissanites from BTD…I don’t see them mentioned on this thread and wonder why not.

I forgot to say that I went with mossy for a couple of reasons.  One: my original engagement/wedding ring jumped in a hole in my bathroom at the beginning of December.  It’s a five stone diamond ring that combined my e-ring and wedding band into one ring.  I do plan to get it out of the hole but that’s another story.  My hunny gave the thumbs up on replacing it so I wouldn’t be sparkle-free plus we just hit our 15 year anniversay on 12/28.  Two: I’ve been intrigued with mossy for years and this was the perfect opportunity to try it!  To be honest though, I really, really want to get a look at the Amora gem that is forthcoming from BTD but that’s not scheduled to happen for another couple of years.

@DBD:  I absolutely love your ring. I’ve looked at your YouTube vids and they really sealed the deal for me!  Thanks!

1. Where do you recommend buying it?  My finace got it through BTD, then had it set in a setting he liked by another jewler.

2. What made you decide on Moissanite?  I love the look of a clear, sparkly stone, but couldn’t let my fiance support the diamond industry.  He agreed and then I showed him moissanite.

3. Are you satisfied with your ring?  BEYOND satisfied.  It is everything I hoped for and more. Everyone can’t get over how awesome moissanite is.  I’ve converted a few people ;O).

4. Do you tell people that your ring is not a Diamond?  If you couldn’t tell, yes, I tell people.  I feel that I would be doing a disservice to moissanite and its super awesome qualities.  Everyone has been very receptive to my choice.  I have zero regrets in choosing moissanite!

5. Do you recommend enhanced stones?  I do reccommend it.  I haven’t owned a non-enhanced stone (I have an Amora), but it looks amazing.  No green coloring ever.  It has some warmth, but it is an H color on the diamond scale, so that is to be expected.

Anyway, here are some pics!  It’s a 6.5 mm on a size 6 ring:

SPARKLE!
