I just broke down and did this a few weeks ago.  I found an $80 Stainless Steel ring online at Kohls, so it was only like $35 before shipping with a 30% off coupon code.

So far I just wear it to the gym because I would always take my sparkly Engagement Ring and wedding rings off, and hated feeling ‘not married’.  Also, I ordered it a half size bigger than my other rings to account for swelling during my workout.  I also plan to wear it to the beach so my diamonds don’t get all sandy.  (And since my fingers tend to swell in the summer, I’m not worried about it falling off or anything.)

If you want to wear a ring in those situations, than I would get the placeholder.

I usually move my right hand ring bands (a bunch of yellow and rose gold stacking rings) to my left ring finger when I am at the gym or running or other similar situations. For the past two weeks they have also been serving as my “wedding set” since I am having a replacement set made.

Those comments sound a little annoying (it sounds like you work in a restaurant kitchen…you’d think people would realize how easy it would be to damage a ring), but I think you should go ahead and get a placeholder if you want one.

If you want something snazzier than plain silver, maybe look online and see if you can find a band with some diamond or gemstone simulants in a bezel setting or set deep into the band? Nothing against plain bands (both my e-ring and wedding band are plain), just a thought in case you still wanted some detail.
