@Tunacupcakes: Thanks! It’s a GIA graded I, which they say is actually more like an H.  It also has medium fluorescence which I have been told makes it appear whiter as well.  It is also a perfect cut, which affects the color too.  I know that was a lot more info than you asked me but they all factor in. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMO I would choose the diamond, a .7 diamond in comparison to a 1c diamond is not a huge difference to the untrained eye. Don’t get me wrong I completely support the beautiful moissy gem I just think if you have 5g to spend get a diamond girl!! You cant go wrong! Yayyy! your getting engaged! Congrats!

I’ll post my diamond.. but no one yell at me!.. haha.

I will say my diamond is so special to me, I admire it constantly and love knowing he ipicked it out, color grade and all and presented it to me. It’s the most expensive peice of jewelry I own and i’m thrilled to wear it everyday. I love that he picked a diamond. ๐Ÿ™‚

@MrsCoachBtoBee: Thank you for all that information. It does look very white for the colour it is! So pretty! I have looked at I diamonds in person and they are just very warm to me.

@bride_in_training: That is a nice moissy! Have you noticed colour change at all with what you wear? I would think such a large moissy would pick up tons of colour in the environment.

@Lilubird: Your ring is beautiful. I’m glad you posted it. The “moissy mob” won’t get you. lol

@Lucky in love: I agree.  Here is my stone it’s .74
It looks bigger in real life than in this pic and is probably set in a halo (not sure since it’s a surprise!)

It’s a tough call.  I voted the moissanite because I do like size… and well, you’d be saving a lot more money with that option, which seems to make sense given that you are both recent grads and could really use that money towards something else.

Question for you, would you regret not having a diamond down the road?  My boss said something to me that made a lot of sense… you don’t want to have to upgrade your stone later (and quite frankly probably wont be able to with house bills, kids, etc), so try and buy as much as you can afford now so that it will always suit your lifestyle.

It doesn’t sound like you have any qualms about having a non diamond stone, so I would probably go for it.  I really doubt anyone would ask if it’s real, and for your immediate family members, I would probably be honest with them.  I hope they wouldn’t judge.

At the end of the day, you have to be happy with your decision.  Are you more practical & would regret spending $5000 on a ring, or would you regret not having that elusive diamond?  It’s really an individual thing.

Here’s a diamond voters voice… I voted diamond since that is what I prefer.   If you’re not completely set on a diamond and would be ok with a moissy, by all means, go moissy and save a ton!  But for me, a diamond was what I wanted.  Could I have saved the money and got a moissy??  Sure, and no one would know the difference.  Everyone who knows me knows I want and would get a diamond, and would have never questioned it.  But I would’ve always know it wasnt a diamond and knowing myself, that would bother me, so the moissy was out of the question.  If you can afford it, I vote get whatever you want… its just money… it could always have been spent “better” elsewhere, or used for something else, but theres always more of it to be made.  Think about what you really want within your budget and go with it, and then stay true to your decision.

@Tunacupcakes:  Thank you! The stones in the band are G I think and I don’t notice a difference at all.  FI was looking at this stone and a D color and he said this one looked better than the D.  At first when he said he was looking at an I, I was like oh shi*t lol but it turned out great!  They really are all different and it’s a good idea to actually look at them.

@mrsb2013:  I would go to a store that carries both and look at them side by side.  You want to make sure it’s something you love.

I have never been neither for or against diamonds. I think all engagement rings are beautiful! My fiance and I chose moissanite because it’s nearly as hard as a diamond, has tons of fire, is “white” (I orginally wanted a blue or pink sapphire, he wanted something that was white to match everything I wear), and VERY affordable!

I have had my engagement ring for over 6 months now and I admire it everyday! I do suggest getting it enhanced if you do choose to get a moissanite. It’ll bring the stone color to about a G-H range if you’re familiar with diamond color standards. What I like about moissanite over diamonds is you don’t have to sacrifice quality for carat size or vice versa. I didn’t have to worry about the cut or clarity and was able to get a 1.25 carat solitaire. I do not regret our choice at all and I love my ring! I hope you find something you love as well, whether it’s a moissanite or a diamond or a sapphire or anything else ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s a picture of it sparkling in low restraunt light:

I love my moissanite right!! Many years ago, I was once engaged to some one else and had a diamond and although I loved my ring at the time, I never new love like my moissy!! I think it really comes down to the man giving it to you (because lets be honest I love diamonds as well!!) and what you are comfortable with! I have a .75 unenhanced moissanite stone and yes when its cloudy out and I wear green likehcantrell0302: said it does pick up the color and I have ALOT of yellow rooms in my house and it picks up a bit of a yellow tinge too (which I kinda love I’m odd) but the sparkle is unbelivable!! Go with your gut, diamond or moissy the size difference wont be that big!! But be happy with you choice! Here’s my little love!!
