I vote moissanite. I have a 1.25ct and I couldn’t be happier. Why did I choose moissanite? Well, diamonds are beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but the industry is ugly, the price is controlled by people with selfish desires, and mining is just bad for the Earth. Moissanite is just as durable, sparkles more, and costs way less. We could have afforded a diamond at the same color, setting, size, ect but why would we? Just because one man spends $10k on a diamond doesn’t mean he loves his fiance more than the guy who got a $2000 moissanite ring loves his. That’s silly.

I never see color in my moissanite. It is enhanced and I have sat it next to a bright green bag and never had it show color. On overcast days it really seems to shine brighter.

I rock my moissanite with pride. No one is real life comes to you with a loop and a notebook full of questions. Only two people have called it a diamond and I have corrected them saying that it was moissanite and they wanted to know more. In fact, the one lady ended up ordering a pair of moissanite earrings and a right hand ring.

Don’t worry about the people who think diamonds are tradition (because they are not) and worry about what you would say to people. The only people who make a big deal about it are people on online forums like this.

If you feel like you are being deceptive, then those are feelings that you have to deal with. Just because you have a colorless stone doesn’t mean that you are trying to fool anyone. Good luck with your choice! If you want, you can order a loose stone and if you don’t like it, you can send it back.

I suggest visiting the betterthandiamond.com moissanite forums. You will get more facts than opinions there. ^_^

Even though the photos aren’t showing up right now.

And here are my photos next to a green bag when someone tried to say that if you put it next to something green, it will show up green.

Just save them until the site is working properly again.

I have a 1.5 carat moissy, and I love love LOVE it! I’ve only had it for a month, and it is enhanced, and I haven’t gotten to compare it up close with a similarly sized diamond, but when all of my friends who have real diamonds see it, they are like, “wow! that is sooo beautiful! (and BIG!)” then again “wow, that’s really beautiful!” I think there is something in the way that it sparkles extra that people notice although they can’t describe. I’m sure that a real jeweler could tell, but I haven’t had anyone even be suspicious; I don’t tell that it’s not a diamond.

Okay so I know this is a little late, but I thought I would post anyway! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a moissy, and 1ct round, I got it from MoissaniteCo and I got an enhanced stone which to me, takes a lot of the green tint out of it although it doesn’t get rid of it entirely. Anyway, I thought I would post on this because tonight I came into a situation where my moissanite was questioned I guess you could say.

I went into a jewelry store to look at wedding bands, and asked to get my ring cleaned. I knew that once the woman looked at it under the microscope she would know is was a moissy, and that doesnt bother me. She asked if she could take my ring to the back so she could polish out the scratches on my band and I said yes. She came back out and was secretly talking to the other woman working there in the store and I saw her lips say, “its a moissanite isnt it?” I started giggling because it’s so funny seeing jewelers being all secretive about it. Anyway, she came back and was putting the polish on it or whatever and she said “Can I say something without upsetting you? Please tell me you know?” haha I said “Yes, I know, I picked it out”. Anyway, she thought that my Fiance had bought me a Moissanite and didn’t tell me it was one, making me think I had a diamond, and she was afraid to tell me that it was a moissy! because she didnt know if I knew or not. It was just a funny situation.

Now, as for telling family and all, I dont get into it unless they ask and I have time to tell them. If they just compliment on it then I say thanks, and this goes for everyone else as well. It’s not that I’m ashamed of it, but unless they ask if its a moissy, Im not going to explain just because its hard to explain to someone who knows nothign about it. It takes a lot of time to explain it all, where it comes from etc. and even then ppl dont get that its not a “fake diamond”. So, only my Fiance, his mom, my mom, and one of my best friends knows that its a moissy. If someone asks me if it is, Im not going to lie, but I dont take the time to explain it, just because you really have to do research on it to fully understand it and all of that.

But here are some pics of mine!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ and sorry for the long post lol!~

Mine is a 1ct oval Moissantie center with a diamond double halo and split pave band. 1.37 total, including the wedding band.  Size 7 for scale ๐Ÿ™‚ I would say the color rating is probably a K, it only looks pale yellow in natural sun light, almost to the point where it would be sold as a fancy yellow… The color doesn’t bother me, I think it make the ring look a little more interesting.  If you are expecting a pure white go with the enhanced moissanite.  I ordered thought MoissaniteCo after reading a lot of good reviews here, I ordered Sunday morning with the free 2-3 day FedEx Express option, it shipped Tuesday, and it arrived Friday.  When I took the stone  to have it set the jeweler asked where I purchased my diamond ๐Ÿ™‚

I vote for a diamond.  0.7 ct will give you a very good size diamond.  Mine is 0.6 ct and I will never trade it for a bigger/much bigger mossy.

How about color gemstone?  Sapphire, Ruby, Yellow diamond?  They’re all beautiful and real gemstone and you can pass on to your son/daughter or grandkids.

I’m partial to moissanite, but thats probably because I have one and I’m absolutely in love with it. I am always kinda wary about recommending it as a diamond stand in though…I adore mine and don’t doubt its perfect for me, but it doesn’t behave like a diamond. To me the greater fire of moissy is very apparent, as it reflects much more colored light than any diamond I’ve seen. I feel that if I didn’t love it for what it was and was preoccupied with it seemingly being a diamond to others, its would make me kinda wiggy and paranoid… its important to me to love it for what it is, not because its a rather convincing imposter at times. But lots of bees do have moissanite and pass it off as a diamond, and I’m pretty certain that you could as well. I don’t think any of your friends or family will be scrutinizing it under a scope! :]

Diamond for sure!  It’s very sentimental to me, in the fact that it is such a rarity and it’s value.  Love it.

@tiny tuna:  This post was a year ago, but I was going to say, when I saw moissanite at a store I thought yuck. Then I took a chance on enhanced from moissaniteco, and it was totally different. Very clear and pretty. I think it’s just not in a jeweler’s best interest to sell beautiful, clear moissanite, or else they’d never get to sell their expensive diamonds.
