I have an appointment with my regular gyn tonight basically just to take my blood pressure so I can get a refill on my BCP prescription.
I’m thinking about this time next year I’ll want to stop taking the pill and start the journey of TTC. The only people who know of these plans are Darling Husband and I.
Should I talk to my doctor about my plans tonight? Does he need to know this far in advance? Are there questions I should be asking him? I have no idea where to start. lol All advice is welcome and appreciated! Thanks

koi424: I did this in April and we plan TTC starting in June.
things to consider
1) think about the hospitals in your area you’d like to deliver in and does your MD deliver there?
2) ask their opinion starting prenatals (can be helpful up to a year in advance), exercise plan and anything else you’re interested in starting
3)when should you go off BC? Dr’s
4) any early genetic carrier testing (CF, fragile X, SMA being the most common) you’d like to do and does your insurance cover it? If not, some dr offices have contracts with the genetic testing companies that will pay for it (mine did!)
5) what meds do you take and are they safe?
Good for you for being proactive!

Before I TTC #1 I went to the Dr and had them do a blood draw to test for immunity to rubella, measles, chicken pox, and probably some other things I’m forgetting… I just wanted to make sure my childhood vaccinations took properly and I was immune to certain diseases that can be very dangerous if you happen to contract them while pregnant.

A year in advance (Jan 2013), I mentioned it to my doctor. All she said was to come see her about 3 months before TTC.
So then in January 2014, I went to see her for this appointment. She basically told me to go off BC 3 months before trying (which I knew and was when I was seeing her), she sent me for blood work to ensure I was up to date on important vaccinations, and told me to start taking Folic Acid. That’s it! She said when I do get pregnant, to come see her and we’d disucss all the other details mentioned above like OBGYN, hospital, prenatals, etc…
We started TTC in April so we’ll see how it goes!
