After 2 unsuccessful dresses that I bought and needed to return, finally I went to David’s Bridal today and found my dress! It’s 2 in one dress. I can wear it as a short dress as in the picture one and as a full gown on in the picture 2. I got a dress on sales but alteration cost could almost be as the same price as the dress and the most expensive part would be shorten the removable skirt. I’m getting married in Hawaii so I think only the short dress should be enough (in that case I will save about $170 + taxes for the alteration cost) but then I will not have a chance to use the removable skirt at all. What you all bees think? Should I still go with full skirt and then remove it later to have a short dress?
I told my Fiance about the cost of total dress (including veil, sash, and alteration) would be about $800 – $900 and he thinks it’s too expensive so I told him that I will be able to use the short dress again in the future as evening dress with color cardigan on top. He said no, nobody use their wedding dress for a second time. Is it true? What you think? I think the short dress is cute and informal enough for other events?

I think its really cute! Maybe you could dye it, get it professionally dyed another color?

@Mashiara: The dress is not white (not sure why it shows up so white :-)) but it’s ivory. However, dying is a good idea! The color won’t wash off right? Sorry I don’t know much about it.

I think you could totally wear the short dress again! If you dyed it, it would be perfect for another wedding…. and if you decide to keep it ivory, you could dress it down with a cardigan and funky jewelry during the summer for a night out. Very pretty =)

Its great and perfect for what you need!

I still can’t decide whether I should have the alteration for the skirt. I just remember that it’s not $170 (this is just for shorten the skirt). It will be about $250. However, I’m afraid that I would regret not doing that later!

Yah it is! Especially if you dye it.

Definitely the full gown so you can have the versatility!!

Definitely get the full gown, and tell Fiance that the dress is none of his concern :). Sherry from the younghouselove blog dyed and reused here wedding dress here:
So yes, it can be done!

I say go with the short dress. I think the look of it is more appropriate for a wedding in Hawaii. The long version doesn’t particularly wow me, and certainly doesn’t scream Hawaiian Nuptials! But I absolutely love the way the short version looks on you. I think it’ll be perfect for the wedding, and you could realistically get some use out of it after you are married. I honestly don’t even think you have to dye it to wear it somewhere else.

doooooo it! I know tons of people that had short wedding dresses and opted to change them up a little so they could wear them again! You’re paying for it, you might as well wear it more than once!

I know a lady who was a slightly mature bride and she wore a slim charmuse dress that she has worn again to black tie functions.

You shouldn’t ask your Fiance, guys don’t have a clue what “people do” and that price is totally not bad.
You could totally wear that dress again. Especially if you could dye it a different color. It’s super cute and fits you great!

i think you gotta work out if whether down the track you would regret not wearing a long dress to your wedding. and if it’s not something that would concern you, then you could go for just the short dress.
however i think that since the dress has the option of going both why not do it? it’s great and you’ll get to have your bride-y moment in a long dress down the aisle, then party the rest of the night away in your sassy shorter dress.
i know the alterations seem pricey, but in effect you’re getting a second wedding dress for a pretty good price. and because weddings are a penultimate day it’s worthwhile investing in what YOU want. so work out what YOU want and do that 🙂

Even if you don’t dye the short dress portion, wear it again with some badass jewelry and/or a cardi for your anniversary each year! It will be perfect for the nice dinner he shoud be taking you to :o)
Go for it – most of us girls are spending oodles and we will never wear our long dresses again. It sounds ike you’ve gotten a great overall price, PLUS an option a lot of other brides don’t have. Wins all around.
