Yesterday we bought FI’s wedding suit which is dark gray and wool and Italian and I love-love-love it. Oh, and subtley striped.
He did the tailor fitting in a very trendy loaner shirt that wasn’t his size that looked like a picnic tablecloth and now we’re wondering what color shirt he should wear. We agree it should be a solid color and classic but the “colors” don’t help–they are emerald green with Majestic Sunset roses. White seems wrong since I won’t be in it, but what if the ivory doesn’t match? Would it be silly if it did?

You’ll be fine with white, as I’m sure others will say, even if your dress is ivory. Here is my ivory dress and ivory veil with my man’s white shirt, white-on-white tie and gray suit, my ivory roses, and the officiant’s white shirt with black suit and gray-and-white tie.

Ivory shirts are typically more yellow than ivory dresses. Have him wear a white shirt- you won’t even notice the difference. There are numerous threads with photos of ivory brides and white-shirted grooms, if you want to check it out for yourself.

We were told if dress is Ivory shirts should be Ivory… it’s really up to you but the idea is the Ivory may look dirty next to the white…

How “ivory” is your ivory dress? I’m having Fiance wear a white shirt because my dress looks a lot more white than ivory. The men’s shirts (as has been said) tend to look more yellow as ivory than ivory wedding dresses.

It’s silk ivory with a plain silk skirt and pearl beading around the top and lace. It looks pretty ivory to me.

This is so not a dumb question. I am glad you asked it, because I had never thought about it before.

My dress is “Light gold”, so we’re going with ivory shirts… But if your dress is ivory, you’ll be fine with white shirts!

We bought him a “No Iron” white shirt but it wrinkled like h3ll when I laundered it, so may return it. Doesn’t seem to fit right anyway, in spite of being a “slender fit.”
Thanks for the suggestions–he’ll wear white.
