…is going to be the death of me! I’m going to be a whiny little Bee (pun intended) for a sec and just say that this sucks.
I only failed the one hour test last week by 6 points because dumb ass preggo brain ate the most DELICIOUS chocolate cereal during the hour fast, so two days later I retook the 1 hour and was SO sure I’d pass. No. Failed by 26. TWENTY SIX!!! How in the hell do you eat a bowl of cereal and have a lower number than when you fasted (and for the one hour you didn’t even need to fast)?
So here I am…stuck doing the 3 hour today. The glucose test itself isn’t bad to drink. It actually tastes pretty good. Just super sugary. Darling Husband added some drops of vanilla extract to his orange pop last week because he was convinced it would make it taste like an orange float. First, that is what this test tasted like. Two…his drink tasted nothing like an orange float. Just sayin’.
But seriously? I have to get blood drawn every hour for three hours. I can’t eat until about 12, and I haven’t eaten since 9:30 last night. I am the most nauseous I’ve EVER been throughout my whole pregnany, and my little man is going bat shit crazy doing waltzes and cart wheels in there, which I am sure is contributing to feeling like I’m going to hurl. I am crashing from the sugar, and I have a headache.
Oh and let’s hope I don’t get stopped by a cop because he’ll probably think I’m some sort of heroine addict if he looks at my arms. My two blood draws from last week left small bruises, and I will have a total of 4 pokes from today. And if I could whine further…the first blood drawn from today hurt and my arm is on fi-yah!
Yes, I’m whiny. No, I haven’t had it near as bad as plently of other pregnant women. I’ve had it very easy, but this still sucks and I feel allowed to complain anyway, AND I have to work all day so it isn’t like I get to go home and put my feet up. I’m already grouchy and tired from the lack of sleep lately (even my comfy lazy boy recliner isn’t making nights easy at this point), and my hips and thighs hurt like HELL from laying in bed.
If you’re a praying woman, I’d send some thoughts to my Darling Husband tonight because he has to deal with this whiny shit storm of a woman after 5. I think I need to go buy that poor guy a case of beer. (no, I’m not going to be a bitch to my Darling Husband for anyone truly concerned)

@megz06: Hugs. That is all. I only passed my 1 hour by like 4 points or something but the drink itself made me really, really queasy. I also broke out in a red, itchy rash all over my neck, cheek, and chest for like 3 hours. I am going to BEG for a dye-free version or a handful of jellybeans or SOMETHING different this time!
Hang in there, and eat whatever you want later 🙂

@DaneLady: That sucks. I wouldn’t want to break out in a rash. My cousin got it super easy. In 5 minutes she had to eat 2 king sized candy bars and two snack sized candy bars. She COMPLAINED!
I’m like bitch please, I can do that in 2 minutes. 😛

OH man that sucks! I’m sorry! I hope you get to feeling better and get some good rest really soon! ((hugs!!!))

@megz06: Euch. I’d puke if I ate that much candy :/

@DaneLady: You’re a lightweight!
@lolita39: Thank you. Might have to take a nap on my lunch break 🙂

@DaneLady: If you think the dye was the issue, jelly beans might not be the best idea …
I get hives from food coloring, and requested an alternative to the glucola that was as natural as possible. My midwife recommended honey. She said I could either eat it straight or dissolve it in a beverage, such as hot or iced tea. I ended up making an ultra-sweet cup of my favorite green tea (it was a big dose of honey, something like 3 tablespoons to get the required grams of sugar) and pouring it over ice. It was still syrupy and cloying, but at least I was avoiding the artificial color and getting some nutritionally useful compounds from the tea.

@megz06: Ugh, hope you pass! I fasted for the 1 hour and failed by 6 points. I passed the 3 hour though. I don’t think there’s any rhyme or reason to it, clearly! I’m sure you will pass! 🙂

@KCKnd2: Thanks! I have never before pregnancy or since had any issue with any dyes, but as a rule I tend to avoid soft drinks & candies anyway, so it’s something I hadn’t likely been exposed to while pregnant.
I have even tasted the glucola a few years ago (I work in a lab & I was really curious haha) and it was gross but didn’t break me out.

They did mine iv style so i only got poked once and they could get the blood much easier. I really dont know why more doctors dont do it that way!
I fiund the sugary drink vile, it might have been marginally better if cold but luke warm was horrendous!! I found a clinic thatd do my test at 7.30am so i coild just roll out of bed and do it before i felt mega hungry. Still sucked tho!
Hope you pass!

I totally feel for you. I failed my 1 hour test by 1 point, I was so annoyed. But I passed the 3 hour so easily. The OB and the lady who took my blood said most people who fail the 1 hour pass the 3 hour.

@newname_99: That seriously would have been SO much better. My arms look horredous!! Luckily my clinic DOES chill the juice. No way could I have drank that luke warm. I can’t even drink water luke warm without almost throwing up, so I did get that luxury at least.
@Lyndzo: That’s what I hear. I am hoping that to be true!
**I did peek at my chart since I work at the clinic. The draw 4 times; one time before the test, and then at 1, 2, and 3 hours. Seems my pre-test draw and my 1 hour draw were pass, the 2nd draw I failed by 2 points, and the 3rd draw was a pass. I don’t know how to interrpet that–if it means overall I passed or if it means I failed or what. I guess I will find out Wednesday.
Thanks for the love, ladies. Headache is gone thank God, but I am still very tired and my arms look terrible, but I’m just glad it’s over. 6 needle pokes in my arms in under a week is just not fun. And I don’t know if they will be drawing Wednesday or not to test my Vitamin D and other levels. *sigh* hope not.

@megz06: I’m glad to hear that you survived the test, it truly does sound miserable! Thats exciting that you got to take a sneak peek at the charts, I hope those results mean that you passed. Best of luck to you!!!

@megz06: Not to squash your hopes, but I was told that failing even one of the draws is a fail for the test. 🙁
