- Wedding: August 2014
My top choice venue got back to me today saying that my date (our 8th anniversary) is open. My parents and my Nana checked it out yesterday and they really liked it (it’s a restaurant that’s only open Fridays and Sundays). I was talking to my mom on the phone about touring it for me (I’m 400 miles away) and she told me that she and my father were going to pay for the venue and food as well as my dress. I know my family loves me, but their generosity still flabberasts me.
I’m 23 and just graduated college in May. My parents helped to pay about half of my education while I financed the rest with scholarships. Thanks to them I am debt free. I really believed my parents at graduation when they said ‘that’s it you’re on your own now’.
I’m working in a lab right now but our funding is super iffy so my job is unstable and I want to go to grad school in the near future. Fiance is taking his last college course online this semester and just got promoted to a management position months ahead of schedule at work. I’m so proud of him. We were planning on using his year end bonus to pay for the wedding, but my mom told me to save it for something like a house downpayment.
I know I’m an only child and this is my family’s only opportunity to do this, but I am still so suprised and grateful for their help. It’s also starting to sink in that Fiance and I are going to get MARRIED. It’s kind of an abstarct concept for us at 23, only one couple of our friends are married and we don’t see them ever, we just keep up on facebook. Not that I have any doubts or anything I have never been happier in my life than since Fiance and I moved in together in June. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m starting to get really excited:)
