My boss, the second person in a two person office, just told me she is resigning. This is her last week. I have 4 months until the wedding! I’m planning to take off a week and a half for my DW!
How am I going to double my workload, and get someone trained well enough to run this place alone, all on top of planning the wedding??!
I am so stressed right now 🙁

Does stressing out about this change the situation?
Don’t waste your energy on it. Seriously, your company will find someone and hire them– they will do the best they can with the skills and resources they have, and when you return, you will deal with whatever mistakes they might make– beyond that, don’t worry about it.

I second what Juliette said! It will be fine. It’s work, people leave, it happens and life goes on!

Ditto above – there are only so many work hours in a day, just get your head down and keep calm, carry on. It’s not your fault your coworker is leaving, it happens and work will cover you. And yes you are still entitled to your time off!

@juliette.eliza: Thanks for the encouraging words. I just wish it was that easy to “not” stress.
I do feel a little bit better now though.
I’m just dreading what will happen in the next several weeks.

I worried about exactly this, coming up to my wedding. I told my now Darling Husband that there’s nobody to take over my workload while I’m gone so basically it would come to a halt blah blah blah. He said this, and I believe you should listen too:
“It’s not your job to figure out who’s going to cover you. It’s your company’s job.”

I say don’t stress. You have an amazing work ethic to worry about work when you are gone, but it isn’t your responsibility to find anyone or handle your boss’s workload. This will come together, and you enjoy your Destination Wedding 🙂 Good luck

Just had a meeting with the regional manager. Basically I’m getting screwed over. “due to slow economy etc, etc……they decided NOT to replace my boss”. They want me to take over her responsibilities and add them to mine. They are also CLOSING my little office (the one I love by the way) and moving me to the main office across the street. Instead of my nice large desk, and private room, with a door, I now get the luxury of working in a cubical 🙁
“Oh, don’t worry about the wedding, we will cross train someone to hold the fort down while you are off”…..”and you can just catch up on everything when you get back”.
Am I getting a raise?? No! Apparently if I can’t do both jobs they will have to find someone who can.
“it’s just not in the budget right now and we are not making enough profit to replace her”.
I really hate to complain because i am lucky to have a job when so many people don’t. This just really stinks!
