I don’t think it was out of line. Likely a response to the people yelling “Your baby has fingernails” and “Your baby has a ponytail” to women walking into clincis.  Seriously, I’ve heard both of those.  I wish a post like this wasn’t necessary, but there seems to be a lot of misinformation out there.

i think its great actually. when i was a little girl my friend’s mother told me abortion was when “a woman who doest feel like being pregnant anymore goes to a doctor and as she gives birth, the doctor stands at her open legs with a drill he usues to drill a hole in the baby’s head and suck out the brain with a tube.”

that is what that woman honestly and truly believed happened.

an actual, realistic depiction of the procedure could be really helpful to people who are scared for their upcoming appointment or maybe help another woman decide that abortion isnt the route for her.

education is always a great thing in my book!

Definitely not out of line, and an interesting way of educating people on what the procedure actually entails. What a wonderful and brave woman!

I’m pro-chice, and to be honest, my first thought was “Why would someone take pictures of that?” But after reading her explanation and the article, I think it’s a very well thought out and powerful educational tool.

@AB Bride:  I LOVE THIS! Thank you for sharing! People think that it is a baby that comes out…a little tiny baby…they don’t realize it is a mass of cells expecially in the beginning and does not look remotely human! Not to say that isn’t human…but it isn’t a fully developed baby. It is just a pack of cells binding and reproducing.

Not out of line, and regardless of the abortion “debate”, I have a lot of respect for her doing this.

There is so much misinformation out there on abortion BECAUSE it is taboo. You can find pictures of heart surgery, brain surgery, foot amputations, so on and so forth – but the images of abortion are nearly always altered in some way for dramatic/political/shock value purposes.

@redheadem:  They basically look like a tiny bit of menstrual blood in a jar.

I appluad her for documenting something that most women don’t even want to think about after the fact. She did society a service by allowing us to see what it really looks like. It’s all of those protestors who are out of line, not this woman who did a selfless thing by trying to educate us. I want to give her a hug.

@AB Bride:  I agree – but thats what makes the protest signs dishonest. More than 90% of abortions take place before 12 weeks.  Most of the abortions that take place after that point are due to diagnosis of fetal deformity or abnormality (Im not adding commentary on the rightness or wrongness of making that decision, but its important to consider that couples who choose abortion in those cases were not just careless with birth control or “decided they didn’t want a kid” – it was more complex than that, and probably a decision they really struggled with).

And yet…despite those facts… nearly all of the signs you see are of 3rd trimester abortions, which are INCREDIBLY rare.
