Let me start off by saying that today has been a generally weird day. That being said, this may sound like a terrible idea tomorrow. But I doubt it.
Fiance is pretty much obsessed with a restaurant in our area. They have a banquet center that will hold 500, and they serve what he considers to be “the BEST Italian food ever.” Which is saying something, considering his Italian family is the reason we need a banquet hall big enough for 500…Anyway, I’ve never been there, but online it looks gorgeous, and it’s actually VERY reasonably priced- we believe there are only two places in the area who can even compete.
So, enter geek mode. They hang candles from the ceiling for receptions. Which reminds me a lot of the Great Hall in Harry Potter, for obvious reasons. They’re votives in clear holders hung by ribbon, but still, it’s the same effect.
And then I got to thinking. What if we had long tables like in the Great Hall?! Unfortunately they’re not wooden, so there would be floor length white linens, but they have the option of very nice wooden chairs that wouldn’t require covers and would still give a similar feel.
We’d have to do more than 4 tables because of the dimensions of the room, but I think it could be awesome!
And my friend’s (aka my graphic designer’s) mother (aka my florist) has a TON (aka at least 400) of goblets in our wedding color, colbalt blue. How awesome would that be?!
I’m not going for an all-out Harry Potter theme, but I’m pretty much in love with the great-hall inspired reception idea. Fiance and I could even have nice fancy chairs at the head table, which could seat our lovely wedding party in place of professors!
Okay, I think this is the end of my geek explosion. For now. Let me know if this is a good idea, or if my weird day has just resulted in even weirder ideas.
Oh, P.S. Fiance actually really likes the idea!
