sooo im a server, and tonight i worked and i had a party of 8 people sitting in my section. i work at a brewery and we brew our own beer so we rarely sell bottled beer… anywhooo… this guy at my 8 top ordered a o douls…. i bring it to him… carry on… etc. then i ask if anyone would like another beer and he says yes… i go to get it and were out!!! soo i go back and politely apologize and ask him if i can get him something else… (of course i cant bc hes crazy) he starts yelling at me that it is ridiculous that we ran out of odouls and he wants nothing else to drink and he wants to speak with a manager etc… ugh. (im sorry i dont do the ordering so please dont take out your anger on me)…. anyways…. i had a couple sitting next to this group of eight who left shortly thereafter and apparantly they heard the whole thing because they wrote me a note on the back of their check that said, “dont worry about the asshole to the left, youre doing a great job!!” and left me a very generous tip haha!!!! it seriously made my night!

LOL! That’s awesome. 🙂 I worked as a waitress for about a year (my first job, when I was 16) and it was people like that who made my night!

Seriously!? It’s O’douls, have a freaking soda already. I serve too and I love when people leave me notes or ask for the manager to tell them how good I was. It totally makes my weekend.

Aww, that’s totally sweet of them! Ive been a server since I was old enough to work and I totally understand jackass customers. Total night ruiners! But that was so awesome of your other table. Gotta love people like that!

Aww what sweet people 😀 I’ve never been a server but both of my sisters were/are for many years. They would come home with the craziest stories!
Whenever I get good service I always tip generously, usually around 30%, because I know how much work it is. It is also glaringly obvious when I get good service because normally I get pretty terrible service. I’m young (22) and only order water because I don’t drink soda and rarely drink alcohol with my meals, not because I’m cheap. Servers automatically think I’m going to tip crappy because I will have a small bill. That so isn’t true! I know my bill will always be small so I overcompensate with my tipping.

That’s awesome! 🙂 I’ve never worked as a server, but I’ve worked a Customer Service counter at a busy grocery store for about 4 1/2 years, where we do a little bit of a lot of things. Most of the time we’re running like chickens with our heads chopped off. Getting constantly yelled at for this and this and this, fixing problems, turning people away, yet trying to please everyone the best you can with a smile on your face. It always feels great to know sometimes you really are doing the best you can, and the other person really just needs to chill.
In my opinion, it’s people like Mr. O Doulls who needs to work in a position like yours and learn what it’s like to deal with people like him 🙂
