head straight to the MAC counter, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

But two things:

  • MAC mattifying gel. It’s silicone based and goes on underneath your makeup, as the person on the counter how to apply, I use a pea size amount for my oily t-zone
  • MAC’s mattifying finishing powder is, in a word, awesome, and worth every penny.

I have extremelly oily skin, but these two products have been lifesavers.

Also, pick up some scented blot tissues to soak up the oil during the day. My favorite line is made by boscia and can be bought online or in a place like Sephora or Ulta. (The rose scented ones are AMAZING)

(P.S. I know you said that you didn’t have time to go to the makeup counter, but I’ve never found drugstore products that worked as well, so I’m just telling you what I’ve found that HAS worked)

I also like to use oil-blotting sheets when I’m especially shiny (I live at the blistering hot beach, so I’m speaking from experience- lol). They have them at drugstores, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. and they’re less than five bucks. E.L.F., Cover Girl, Clean & Clear… they all make them. They’re just basically sheets of some sheer material that removes oil without removing makeup- genius. I have tested the E.L.F. and Clean & Clear and both work well.

I like the Smashbox Anti-Shine.  It’s a gel.  You just need a tiny dab.  It fills in large pores and makes them look smaller and makes your face look matte.  You can just wear it alone.  I’ve bought it at Sephora.

My go-to’s for an extremely red and shiny face:

Moisturize (just a little in the dry spots): http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P228714&categoryId=C20223&shouldPaginate=true

I let the lotion soak in for a few minutes, then use a blotting paper.

Prime: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P78811 (in redness reducing green)

Foundation: http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/01/23/ace-your-face-pt-1/ (Mrs. Rainbow saved my life with this one)

Finish: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P190025 (I know it says foundation, but it’s really just a light, mattifying powder…)

Good luck!
