OMG! I would not go back. This place sound terrible. I can’t believe a doggie day care is not used to dog poop, and you even specifically told them about your dogs routine this morning. If they overreact like this and yell at you and punish the dog, I don’t want to imagine how they handle more intense situations.

I definitely wouldnt bring my dog back there. It sounds like this guy doesn’t even like dogs that much.

I’ve worked at doggy daycare and shelters– this is ridiculous.  I would have torn him a new one!

He works with dogs, it’s his job to pick up poop! That’s all there is to it.  It’s not your fault, it’s not your dog’s fault, poop happens at dog boarding!  You can walk your dog a million times but he could see something new that stresses him out or snack on something weird in his kennel that got overlooked– tada, poop!

Who compares the kennel to their house? And he says it’s not the dog’s fault, but then he punishes the dog by locking it up?  I’d write bad reviews and move somewhere else for sure.  You don’t work with dogs unless you can shovel poop with a smile, and he’s just in the wrong line of work.

Find a new daycare. The way they handled that was completely unacceptable. Dogs poop. It’s part of being a dog. Sometimes they poop a lot. Yeesh.

I highly recommend a doggie daycare chain called “Dogtopia” if you have one in your area. They are great!

I used to work at a doggie daycare, and that was rude and completely uncalled for.  Dogs poop!  It’s not their fault, and it’s certainly not your fault when you took him for a walk and he hadn’t gone yet.  I would look into taking him to another place.  Dealing with accidents goes with working with dogs.  I worked at petsmart in the grooming department, too, and if a dog had an accident we would clean it up and mention it to the owner to make sure nothing was wrong with the dog.  What a jerk.

@bookworm88:  Completely agree with this, particularly the part about it “not being the dogs fault, but yours,” and then he locks the dog in a crate. Shit happens, especially when you work with dogs.

What the heck? This owner sounds very unprofessional. I definitely wouldn’t take your dog back there!

Wow… as has been said, what did he expect?! Dogs potty… a lot, and sometimes not where they’re supposed to. It happens. Clean it up and move on. He runs a dog business, and this is how he treats his clients? No way would I go back! I’d also leave a review on Yelp and anywhere else warning potential clients.

What an A-hole. Seriously. I’m glad your dog shit everywhere, he sounds like a jewel. Extra treat for pups tonight for that one.

@discodance:  That’s a good point– we would gently mention it to the owner if it was something out of the ordinary.  “Hey, Giggles went in her run today and she never does that, just wanted to give you a heads up in case she’s still feeling queasy when she gets home!”  It was never a “how dare your dog mess up my kennels!” …they’re kennels.  Spray it with a hose, it’ll be fine.

I think they should put a little grass out to let the dogs go before entering the kennel– it’d be a smart move because lots of our owners would do a lap with their dogs before bringing them in.  But sometimes the regulars were in a hurry and just let the dog run out of the car and through our doors with a leash trailing behind them!  We’d still always take the dogs out ASAP, it sounds like this employee/establishment is just really lazy and shouldn’t be working with dogs.

Also, I wouldn’t send my pets to somewhere without AC in the summertime.  I don’t think it’s worth it when they could be lounging around the house.

I would not take my pet back there. That was incredibly unprofessional and not the way to conduct business at all. If you run a business dealing with animals, you expect poop. You deal with it. It comes with the territory. And did he really say shit in the text or is that you phrasing?

And really? The dog is a DOG. He doesn’t have the reasoning capability to equate pooping on the floor = punishment = being locked in the crate all day. This guy sounds like he knows next to nothing about animals.

Tell him you will not be back and will not be recommending his place of business to anybody you know. Bad news travels 10x faster than good.

    I would never go back!

I had a problem with a daycare once. I took my two yorkies there regularly for 3 months and then one day one of them was sick, and I did tell the owner before bringing her in, that she had a small case of diarrhea and that I was planning on taking her to the vet right after work. She said it would be ok but called me EVERY single time my dog pooped in the wrong place.

The last time she called, she was pretty upset because she pooped in the middle of the grass/play area rather than on the designated location. She was yelling and told me that I needed to come and get her and take her to the vet right away or she would do it and charge me for it. I went and picked up my dogS. She was very sweet when I arrived and wanted me to leave my other dog for the extra 2 hours that was left for the day… I took both of them home and asked her to refund the last 3 months (since it was a 6 month deal.) It’s been about 2 months and I never returned. I just leave my dogs at home like I used to do and take them on walks/runs daily before and after work.

I think it’s ridiculous the way you were treated and would not recommend taking the dog back there! Your dogs should feel loved and not judged for having a little accident…
