My friend’s hubby hand welded this idea for her wedding, so since thats a little advanced for me, I’m trying to think of how to make something like this. I just need some sort of upside down U shaped “thing” to decorate. I want to hang asian lanterns from it (and maybe put bamboo on the sides).
Here’s a picture of my friend’s. Ignore the decor and just notice the actual ‘furniture’. Any idea of how to make??? Thanks bees!

@virgomasala80: are you talking about the thing behind them with the flowers on top?

Two-by-fours screwed together firmly and well should do nicely. I’ll check with my FI if you want for exact directions, but you’ll definitely want to saw them using a mitre box to get the angles perfect. Use more two-by-fours for the “feet” and hide them behind some nice potted plants or something.
Alternatively, you should be able to make a nice structure using PVC pipe – use the angle connectors for corners, of course, and get someone to tell you how to connect it securely.
For either of these, you NEED to decorate the entire thing, though, unless you *like* the look of two-by-fours and PVC pipe.

Okay, I think I know what you’re talking about, something like this??
That’s obviously the ‘skeleton’ but I’ve seen some great ideas on Pinterest for decorating them. I’m sure you could replace the PVC pipe with bamboo.
Here’s the other results for my search on Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=diy+pvc+backdrop

Can you borrow your friends?
Or, my next thought was to browse the free section on Craigslist and see if anything popped out at you that would work. I just looked at our area and in the top ten offers was a swing set, something like that would work.

I’m a children’s minister and a few years ago we did a kids summer program that used bamboo as decor. I wound up making a frame out of pvc pipes, then sliding bamboo on to cover. Also, mount a dowel rod to a piece of wood and use that as the brace. Then you don’t have to have the long legs sticking out and potentially tripping someone. I’m a klutz and could see myself taking a header when I try to sit down…not pretty.
