Has anyone had their wedding or been to a wedding at the Thompson hotel? We are looking to have our ceremony on the rooftop and the reception in the ballroom downstairs. However i am a little concerned with the area, and the crowd that hangs around the hotel on a saturday night.
There’s a club on the bottom floor and their lobby turns into a lounge at night. If anyones been to wedding here, did you find the club goers and the wedding guests crossed paths a lot? Is there only one exit out of the hotel (through the lobby) and my guests would need to be fighting through all the clubbers and bouncers etc. just to leave. I would want our wedding to be as private as possible, and i’m not too keen on the crowd that hangs around the hotel on the weekend.
Our other option is the Eglinton Grand in Midtown, however it is lacking the view of the rooftop ceremony which is why we initially wanted to have it at the Thompson.
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Another option is to have the reception in the lobby bar area (depending on the number of guests).
I’ve shot a wedding there and there was a homeless man who approached us during family portraits, but it wasn’t all that bad. It’s definitely right downtown, so you’ll have a bit of that character for sure, but it wasn’t over the top.
In terms of clubbers, we didn’t notice that.

Hi there! I know this is a bit late, so I hope this is still helpful. After scouring the internet for the perfect venue in Toronto, I thought the Thompson was *the one* that is, until we saw it in real life. Didn’t like how the ballroom was in the basement, with no windows and a very dark colour scheme. The rooftop patio is too tiny for a reception, and there were flies everywhere. I was crushed. We ended up booking at Malaparte. It has a beautiful view of the skyline, and we’re still right down town, but in the theatre district which is a lot less sketchy. 180 and Canoe also have beautiful city views but can’t offer outdoor ceremonies which is why we didn’t end up booking there. The Harbourfront Westin and Park Hyatt also have nice views. Lastly, the Island Yacht Club and the Royal Canadian Yacht club on the Toronto Islands have beautful views of the skyline, but from afar. Good luck!!
