I think it was my senior year of high school and I was leaving for the day, and I fell off the curb and scraped up both my knees pretty bad – tore holes in my jeans and everything.  Everybody just stood there and laughed, til finally a freshman I kind of knew (her older sister was my classmate) finally helped me up, helped gather my things, and helped me walk to my car.

I was running for the bus with then-boyfriend Darling Husband and his description of it is: One minute she’s there running beside me for it, the next she’s faceplanted on the curb.

I tore my palms up like crazy. I had faceplanted because I had literally tripped over myself.

Darling Husband says now: Strawbs got into a fight with a sidewalk once and it got told, so if you ever have an issue with sidewalks talking smack, call strawbs.

I cut my hand washing dishes.  Had to drive myself to the ER, in a manual transmission car, with my righ hand wrapped in paper towels!

@pinkzebra:  I was trying to get off a boat with my backpack and a bottle of water in one hand and my umbrella and money for the fare in the other (yeah, I don’t know why I didn’t keep some of the items back in the boat and taken them after disembarking). I’m taking a step towards the bank when the bloody boat sways, throwing me off balance and I fall, scraping my elbow and knee. To add the proverbial insult to my literal injury, my skirt lifts up revealing my black g-strings, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BOATMAN! All in all, it was quite an embarrassment.

@abbylyn:  @strawbs:  Over the years, I had at least 10 run ins with sidewalks and driveways.  The latest was a few months ago in a mall parking lot!

One summer I was in the hospital (quick backstory that may explain more of the situation: had cancer, being treated for it with chemo and I was on Prednisone which is a steriod that causes INTENSE hunger and can cause weight gain).  So I’m sitting on my hospital bed with my legs crossed, talking to my mom and a candybar in each hand and my mom says “want to come with me to the gift shop to look for something to do” “Sure” I say and try to hop down semi-gracefully without untangling my feet or putting my candybars down….and on the hard tile floor on my knees I go.  Makes a horrifying “Crack” as they hit that the nurses in at the station heard and came running in.  Find me on the floor on my knees, crying with my candybars in my hand.  So the pick me up off the floor and send me down to x-ray (because along with all the other lovely side-effects chemo has on a body, losing bone mass and causing fractures is one of them).  So the next morning the doctor is doing his rounds and says to me “I heard you had quite a fall…but you saved your snack.” OMG I was 16 and the doctor was HOT and I was embarrassed to explain what happened.  Luckily no broken bones but I did have some horrible bruising and pain for a while.

@strawbs:  Reading your story reminded me that in spring of 8th grade (brand new school of course too lol) it was raining and I was late for class so I went to run up the stairs to my first class, slipped UP the steps, hitting my face on the stair above me and causing a bloody nose.  All in front of a couple of cute guys at my new school…who by the way never let me forget about that day all throughout high school.

@NurseMandie:  Sorry for threadjacking but I hope you are fully recovered now? (From cancer, not the fall)

@Aquababes:  Yes I’ve been in remission for 15 years now!  Everything is good.

@strawbs:  Thankfully I’ve never broken a bone or lost a tooth or anything from falling lol.  And as far as I remember that was the only time I’ve even had a bloody nose.

I was once walking up the stairs at my high school between classes, so the stairs were pretty crowded.  I was walking fairly close to the person in front of me.  I tripped on the stairs and did a face plant IN HER BUTT.

She was not pleased.

To continue with the hilarious falling and hurting yourself stories… When I was in college I was friends with a group of very tall, burly men (there were at least 4 of them and they were all over 6 feet tall). One night we all walked over to a local restaurant for dinner. The entrance was blocked by a guard rail and in order to get in you would have to walk all the way around it.

My giant friends had no trouble stepping over the rail, but with me clocking in at just 4’11” I had some trouble. I tried to hop it, but didn’t quite make it and completely faceplanted on the other side of the rail — which happened to be this establishment’s parking lot.

I think one too many people saw (or perhaps this happened quite often?) because a month or two later a fence was installed and no one was able to just hop the guardrail anymore. You had to walk all the way around. Undecided The guys still don’t let me live that one down…
