I was engaged when I was younger and when everything happened it broke my heart. Its cliche but time will help. I drank a little too much wine. 10 years later I’m engaged to a much better match and know that although it hurt at the time it was the best for both of us. He stayed in his home town, got married and had the children he wanted. I traveled, had a career and am getting married to my best friend. Hopefully time will give you some perspective

I broke off my engagement about a year after we got engaged. It was extremely painful and I cried for an entire week in private before I actually did it (we lived together at the time). Although it was the hardest thing I have ever done, it was the best decision I have ever made for myself. I just kept telling myself that it would get better day by day and tried to focus on the positive aspects of my decision. I think I was more upset at the fact of how bad I was hurting my (now ex) Fiance. It took a while for me to get over it, mainly because I didn’t know if I was making the right decision. He was an amazing person and any girl would be lucky to have him as a husband. I felt like I was settling though and decided I wanted to experience a lot of things on my own before I got married. I am now single and live in a new city with my sister and couldn’t be happier with my life. I knew the feelings I was having towards my ex-FI were happening for a reason and I decided to act on them instead of taking the easy way out which would have been to stay. Time has really helped, as well as picking up new hobbies and keeping myself busy. Just remember that the pain won’t last forever.
