So we moved after we got married and I haven’t made a ton of friends in our town. Those that I do know I don’t feel comfortable inviting them to a shower and feeling obligated to get a gift when we either just met or not that close. Let alone, I dont have anyone to throw me a shower.
All my friends are back home and it has been a little hard, being my first baby getting everything together. For example: Baby Bedding…. that stuff is more expensive than our bedding! I am in LOVE with some baby bedding but its just way too expensive to buy the whole set myself. Are there specific websites you guys have turned to that I dont know about? I feel like i have looked at every single baby bedding there is out there!

@nonoame: For baby bedding we’re actually considering buying just individual pieces because it’s cheaper and we can mix and match.
I’m probably not having a shower either. We live across the country from anyone who we’d feel comfortable with throwing us a shower so unless we can make the trip at some point, we won’t be getting one.

We’re also across the country from all of our family and friends, but we’re actually flying back for a shower. At least that’s the plan as long as my doctor doesn’t decide to tell me that I can’t fly!
For bedding, we’re trying to keep things cheap too. Our plan right now is to splurge on the crib skirt, b/c that will have the most visual impact, and the baby won’t get it dirty. We’ll probably get it from a seller on etsy. For sheets, we’re just going to go with plain color sheets that we’ll buy from Amazon or another cheap website. We’re not doing a bumper b/c they’re considered to be unsafe these days… although we will probably purchase a breathable bumper for once she starts rolling around in her sleep. The total for all of that should be less than $100, and if we didn’t splurge on the crib skirt, it would be way less.
One of my other tricks is to keep an eye out for coupons. We like using the Bed Bath & Beyond 20% off coupons at Buy Buy Baby for some of the more expensive items.

What if you do an online-access registry?
I have friends far away but if I somehow knew about their registries I would LOVE to send them a gift in the mail.
Maybe you could do a ‘baby update’ email to your good friends and say a line in there like: “some people have been asking if we need anything for the baby still, and although we’ve got a few items, we do still have a lot on our list: here is a link to our registry if you want to see: ______”
Best friends will probably want to get you something even if they can’t be there to give you a shower.
