i have a million and one thoughts run thru my head every day. sometimes, my thoughts are a continuous stream of narrative, as if i were writing. i love to write. i’d much rather write my thoughts out with no interruptions than talk to someone in person. i love words. though i find i’m most successful at writing when i’m troubled or worried – venting, if i want to be downright honest about it. but who wants to follow a person who the majority of the time, just vents??
i just dont do it enough. i’ve tried starting 3 blogs in the last 6 months and always end up abandoning them. what am i missing here?
i want to blog. but i fail at it everytime. am i approaching it all wrong? is there a trick to blogging to make one be successful at it?? any tips??

Try and find a niche, or topic that you really want to write about.
If you’re just venting all the time or writing block narratives about your day then it is going to read like a personal journal.
While some people may enjoy that style it is usually because the topics are relatable, funny or so OUT THERE in an OMG kind of way that people are either scandalised or entertained.

I blog because it is a hobby of mine and I really enjoy it.
It sounds a little like you want to blog, but don’t really enjoy it or feel pressured to blog a certain way. If it is making you feel bad and you don’t have a good time doing it, why blog?
Maybe you can figure out why you want to blog, and then if it is still genuinely something you want to do, come up with some blog topics and brainstorm each one, research, write meaningfully, and blog as frequently as you comfortably can (1x a day, 1x a week, or 1x a month for example)

Try to find prompts that you can write about every day. When I first started my blog I did the 30 day blog journal. I would post the link for it here, but it would violate the self promotion pollicy. You are more than welcome to PM me to get the link so you can see the list of daily prompts. Doing this helped me to blog every day. Then I did a couple of the reverb10 prompts. Now I am really in the habit of daily (or almost daily) blogging and it’s something I look forward to. I have also started to look at the The Daily Post . You can view their “Post a day 2011” series here – http://dailypost.wordpress.com/
I hope this helps!

You wrote that you “fail” at blogging each time. What does that mean? Do you mean that you fail because you don’t enjoy it? Because you don’t have tons of readers? What are you going for in your blogging; what’s your overall goal with it?

hmmm.. good points ladies…i do enjoy writing, so maybe its the way that i’m writing that i’m having trouble with?? i’m not sure….
for example, i’m addicted to facebook….i always update my status at least once a day if not more…..but the majority of the time, i could easily write or ‘blog’ in length on the same topic that i put in my status…..so i’ll get into this mood where i’m like okay, well i want to start blogging….i’ll start….and then gradually it turns into just 1 update a week and then suddenly its 1 month before i last blogged….i dont understand why i feel like i want to do it, and then end up not doing it….
maybe blogging isn’t the sorce of outlet i should be looking for???
@Bubu82: i first started one because i wanted to write more than just an updated status, like facebook…..by fail, i mean, that it started off ok where i was writing about 3-4 times a week but then after like a month, i just stopped…i get into these moods where i feel like i have a ton of things i could write about so i start, and then after awhile, i’ll get writer’s block or something and just stop altogether…..then i started another blog to write about wedding planning….same thing….even though i’m always looking up something wedding related almost every day, i still don’t end up blogging…..
@R.Elliott: i do enjoy it when i’m actually blogging…..but then i get into a rut of sorts where i don’t know what to talk about even tho i feel like i have a million things to talk about!! :/
