@agirlwithdreams7: I’m glad you posted this. I had mine done for the first time on 11/5 and I don’t want to pay to have someone take it off. I’m scared to do it myself. Worried I will damage my nails.

I took mine off after 3 weeks and I didn’t have any chips. They had just grown out! My nails were fine after. I just soaked them in acetone and scraped with an Orange wood stick. I buffed my nails after and they looked normal! I say go for it!

Mine lasted 3 weeks as well!  I had french tips so even though they grew out I just added a top layer of shine and they looked completely normal.  No chips or anything.  After the 3 weeks a couple nails started peeling at the edges so I just peeled them all off.  No damage 🙂

@agirlwithdreams7:  Mine cost $35. To have them done again it would cost $40!!! They charge $5 to take it off. That is more expensive than acrylics in my area. Acrylics usually run $25 to $35 depending on if you get plain or pink and white. Fills run about $15 to $20. So Gels are way more expensive to keep up but they do not damage the nail like acrylics do.

Check your junk snail mail for coupons. I get them all the time for gels at $20.

After two weeks my hair would get caught under the gel while I was washing my hair and would drive me crazy. They told me I could take them off myself with acetone but that absolutely ruined my nails. I have friends that get them done every two weeks but I don’t think I’ll ever do it again!

@agirlwithdreams7:

You can try an overlay with solar powder. It’s similar to acrylic but its a lighter powder and I think more natural looking. If you are interested in gel nail polish, try to see if you can catch a deal on living social or Groupon. I’ve seen a couple in previous months.

I love gel polish!

I always get french and it lasts me about 3 weeks or a lil longer. I LOVE IT. I always get french b/c they last the longest and you can hardly tell there is new growth. On the last week or so I’ll change it up and polish over them w/ the color of my liking.

My cousin gets them done in clear and then colors over them w/ regular polish, she swithes the color every few days and the gel polish stays put like new.

I pay $33 for a french gel manicure and Pedi; $15 for just the gel poilish I believe. I am go ing tomorrow so i’ll update if its wrong.

I live in Whittier Ca so there are tons of nail shops which = tons of competition which = the low prices.

I tried a couple different styles: french, regular polish colors.  I found the french to last longer for some reason.  I chip regular nail polish 1 day after I pant them.  This gel could last about 2 weeks for the french and the pink color I got didn’t last but a couple of days.  I think it was just done wrong.  The removal wasn’t bad at all.  I have also removed it at home without any issues.  It wasn’t worth it for me because it got expensive pretty fast.  It was $40-60 for the polish and $10 to remove.

Mine last 3 weeks. I get the pink and white acrylic with gel overlay – french tips. Sometimes I can stretch it to 3 and a half weeks!

Mine last a long while and I am tough on them. It costs $25 and they never charge me to take them off as I get them redone every 4 weeks.

I just got a manicure done that was amazing. She used regular polish (more choices) then did the gel top coat. I paid for a regular manicure, and a week later my nails still look great. Usually with just polish I am lucky if it lasts a day. I am definiately getting this done more often!

It may be an option if the gels are too much. Last time I got full gel, it cost me about $30 here in Dallas. (but that included the manicure too, so I bet it would be cheaper with out the manicure part, but I love the massage!). But I think for the wedding/honeymoon the expense is well worth it for the gels.

I have also found the Essie lasts a really long time. I can put a couple coats on of that nail polish and I am good to go for about 4 days without any top coat. I am going to pick up their top coat this weekend and see if it lengthens the time I can wear.

Mine lasted over a month, easily. I got mine taken off by the salon though because of how long it would take to DIY.
