Sapphires and rubies (still sapphires) have more of a history as e-rings than diamonds, I believe. I don’t like the current trend of imitation rings, but I love sapphires, and my e-ring has some. If you like the sapphire halo, get it. You’ll be wearing it forever, so it’s most important that you like it. And make sure you’ll like it even after the trend dies. People probably will think Diana when they see it for a little while, though.

This is true. Sapphires and other gems were traditionally the stone of choice for engagement rings. Blue is the color of devotion.

Get what you want! I have a sapphire center stone and LOVE it. No one has made comments to me about it being “trendy.” Granted, I’ve had my ring longer than Kate’s had Diana’s, but still.

the ring from weston is absolutely beautiful!
I don’t think sapphires are going to go away any time soon, they have been used for hundreds of years and are going to continue on. I love sapphires becuase they come is so many colors! I have sapphires as side stones in the ring we have getting made and think they are absolutely lovely, I would have gone with any stone that is blue the sapphires offer such a wide range of color

OMG, Montana sapphires are SO gorgeous! I want one.
Is the Diana ring a trend now? sure. but wasn’t it also a trend back in the 80s when it was given to her? trends come and go. that ring is very classic looking and I believe you will love it for the rest of your life. who cares what other people think if you love it?
you are very lucky that a sapphire is what your heart is set on. if you have a limited budget and are open to it, lab created sapphires are
the real thing but don’t cost very much. you could get exactly what you want at a fraction of the price. good luck in your search and post pictures when you get one!

I have a sapphire! I got it pre-Kate and William engagement. I was really happy she got Diana’s sapphire engagement ring. I have always thought that colored gemstone engagement rings are lovely, and Kate has brought them back into popularity! Here is mine!

Sapphires come in pink, orange, green yellow, everything. Not just blue. Dated? I doubt it, considering sapphires have been used in jewelry for hundreds and hundreds of years.

I love sapphires! Don’t get me wrong, I love my diamond, but if something ever happened to it I’d definitely get a sapphire replacement.

Like love108, I’ll make a plug for Brilliant Earth if having ethically sourced stones is a priority for you. It was for me, along with using recycled metals, so we went with a ring from BE and I couldn’t be happier with it!
@ jrapril02 — I love the color of your stone. I can never seem to get mine to photograph that well!

I LOVE sapphires! With out a doubt they are my favorite stone. I orginally asked DH for orange sapphire side stones or a blue center stone but he was set on the diamond. I still got them in my e-ring tho!
