Hind-sight is always so interesting – I only went to a couple weddings leading up to my own – and just went to my first since my own this past weekend.
Here are my thoughts.
1. BEST PART OF THE WEDDING: watching the bride have a BLAST dancing on the dance floor. She didn’t even have her new husband with her for much of that time – she was just SO.HAPPY. Nothing mattered to her (seemingly) she just was full of joy and that was so sweet to see.
2. #1 complaint of all guests: the heat. It was blazing hot. Ceremony was under a tree – about 1/2 the guests were shaded – the rest (including me and DH) were in the direct sunlight. Thankfully, it was a short ceremony – but, even still – we were both dying afterwards.
3. #2 complaint: the heat. This time – for the cocktail hour and dinner reception. The cocktail hour including a lot of standing around with no where to sit. The food was out in the shade, but it was not covered in any way – which meant, flies were sitting on the food. All of the reception tables were in the direct sunlight. It was so unbearable, we ended up moving our table to a little section of shade about 15 feet away. The interesting thing was this all could have been avoided if they set up the venue a little different – ie: planned on where the sun would hit and flip flopped the tables to the other side (where it was nicely shaded).
….there were no programs (didn’t matter), there were no favors (didn’t matter).
When it really comes down to it – the only things that I think really DO matter is that the bride and groom are happy (since that’s what all your guests are there to see) and you take care of the basics for your guest (make sure they are comfortable and fed).
The rest is just icing on the cake!
