teabiscuits:  if I can be honest, I am a size 6.75 ring finger. I have a 3ct with small halI around it, I love it bit at times think I should have done the 2ct instead. It’s a bit big on my finger. I have a round stone tho. If you are doing round, I say do the 2ct for her ring size. If I get a solitare one day I’ll do that size… Right now I have a ruby so it’s pretty large but a lot.

teabiscuits:  Does she work a good deal with her hands? If so going smaller is a good idea.

teabiscuits:  I’m a size 7 with a 2.8 And I wouldn’t go any bigger. With her size id do 2.5 at the most.

My boss had somewhere in between the two, and I always thought it looked too big and clunky and noticed that she often times would take it off at her desk or not wear it at all that day. I think 2 carats is perfect, but if your girl really loves her jewelry and is flashy with it…then by all means, go for 3 carats! It really depends on her personality and what style of jewelry she normally wears. Does she love big chandelier earrings and chunky necklaces or is she more into petite necklaces and studs?

I don’t think it’s a matter of size, I think it’s how long her fingers are. I was measured as a size 4, but I have really really long skinny fingers and huge hands. I think a 2 carat stone looks small on me, it looks like a 1 carat looks on other women, so take hand size into consideration. My boyfriend took me to try on different sizes to see what things looked like on my hand.

Also, it’s what she wants. I would love a 3 carat stone or larger, some women don’t want anything larger than a half carat, we’re all different. You need to see what she likes. Good luck!

teabiscuits:  I have just over 2ct on a size 5.5 finger and I love it… I always get “wow, that’s huge” type comments, so any bigger I think would be too much.  Rounds face up bigger, so 2ct might be  big enough.

I have a completely differnt cut, emerald, but mine is 2.25 solitaire and it looks huge on my finger which is 6.75  also the emerald cut doesnt appear as lare (due to facets) as Round Brilliant so unless you live the lifestyle/area where 3+ is norm or expected I would go 2 , maybe 2.5 at most.  It will be beautiful either way.

thought i’d chime in since i have a pretty direct comparison pic. my middle finger is a 5.5-6. the top ring is a 2.2 (in a halo, so take that into account) and the bottom is a touch over 3. fwiw, i opted for the smaller of the two and think it’s the perfect size.

TBH 3 carats would be a pain to wear all the time (top heavy, will knock on things) but if she’s a bigger the better sparkles gal who is loud and proud she’ll love it.

If she’s more modest get a 2. If the quality will suffer to get a 3 definitely get a 2. They are both BIG and I’m sure shell love!

For reference I am a 5.5 and this is 1.5ish

alwaysserenity:  thank you :-). Let’s see your emerald!  If I hadn’t gotten the ring I did, I wanted an emerald cut 🙂

I have a 2.5 carat oec on a size 5.5 finger. I think it looks fine, and wouldn’t even mind going up to a 3 someday. 🙂 (also I am five foot nothing)

Here are some pics:
