We are considering a destination wedding in Mexico or DR and the most important things when considering where to book is: Nice location for ceremony, nice location for reception, nice location(s) for bride-groom photos. It is hard to find a combination of all three, yes there is the beach, but I picture a beautiful backdrop of a stone wall, garden, nice structure, bridge, something else that will make those bride-groom photos timeless and gorgeous. Often there may not be those picturesque locations at the hotel itself. Does anyone have thoughts on pre-wedding photoshoots or post wedding photoshoots? Some people do TTC so maybe a photoshoot the next day at the ruins or another place would be cool. Thoughts?

Most of that is going to depend on your venue. Some resorts have plenty of variety in senery while others might be a bit more lacking. What resorts are you considering? Many of my couples of to do a “Day After” session. It’s not trashing the dress, but basically a portrait session just for the bride/groom the day or a few days after the wedding. A time they can get dressed back up for additional photos that maybe we didn’t have time to do on the wedding day, or at a location that wasn’t feasable the day of.

We did a post-wedding photoshoot about 2 days after the wedding, in our ‘back-up’ wedding attire.
Definately no regrets! Go for it.

My hubbie and I did the pics of the two of us and individual shots before the ceremony, at a different location. There were some unique spots that our photographer want to shoot at. And we did not want all our pics taken at the ceremony and reception venue where the formal pics were being taken. It worked out great! My hubbie went to the location first and then I arrived shortly thereafter. That way we stil got the moment he saw me in my dress captured on film. The other bonus was that we did not have to leave our guests after the formal pics were taken.
