So I just trimmed and tidyed mine up after a shower tonight. Nothing drastic just cutting of dead ends. I think I did a good job. However it sparked an interest to find out who else does this or more drastic like Brittney ( which I did a few years back) I was trying to do funny pixie cut but kept cutting lol.
Have you, do you or would you never ?

I would be the Britney, nope. I know my limitations.

I trim my own bangs and sometimes trim the rest of my hair myself if its annoying me. I do an alright job on my bangs, I’m sure the rest of my hair is crooked but it’s very long and I always wear it tied up, so it doesn’t really matter. When I want to trim it I just part it down the middle, bring it all over my shoulders to the front and snip the end off around my belly button. I’ll have someone else trim it before my wedding so I can wear part of it down and not have it be crooked.

I trim my own bangs but can’t even imagine how I’d do the rest lol!

doglovingwife : After dropping $55 on a trim today I wish I could. I have had enough bad haircuts in hair salons to never dream of attempting a full trim or hair cut by myself.
As a college student trying to save a few bucks I did trim my bangs when I kept them shorter but to be honest, they didn’t look great.
I spent 3.5 years getting terrible haircuts/trims so now that I found a stylist I love I just pay up every 10 weeks.

I take about 5-6 inches off of my hair every few months, however, it’s still long. I go through phases of cutting bangs and then letting them grow out, rinse and repeat. I don’t know if I would cut my hair short on my own though, I think short hair needs to be styled a bit more than just long hair.

One of the girls I used to work with has the most gorgeous waist length thick hair. When I asked her about it, she told me she cuts it herself. I personally wouldn’t venture into layers, but doing a straight trim is actually really easy. She showed me the youtube videos and they are actually SO simple. I prefer a specific type of cut (layered V shape) which *is* possible on your own, but its more difficult than I want to dive into lol.

I’ve been cutting my own hair for the past couple of years. I am definitely not hair and makeup talented. I’m just cheap with my money and my time! I have long layers, which are forgiving. There are a number of you tube videos and Pinterest pins for DIY long layers.

I tried the ponytail cutting method and I fucked up my hair…went from brastrap length to chin length to correct it. But I have curly hair and curly hair is hard to cut…not like cutting straight hair at all. Now I pay a professional to cut my hair 😂

I trim my sidebangs myself, but I’m sure a professional would be completely horrified by the job I do. The rest of my hair is in long layers and goes down to around my elbows so Fiance trims that for me (begrudgingly).

I have done it in the past, but my results were never great. I also made the mistake of letting friends cut it in the past. Never again. I barely trust stylists, let alone myself or friends. I’ve had too many bad haircuts and years of awkward growing out stages; now I just keep it simple and long with some layers. If I were going to attempt myself it would just be to trim split ends, but nothing else.

In college I would trim my hair myself. I did the ponytail method. Gather my hair into a pony at the tip top of my head. pulled the ends straight up to the ceiling and snipped! I was pleased with it every time. Once I cut my hair short I started going to the hairdresser again. It’s now back to this length though and I have started thinking about doing it myself again…. We’ll see!

I cut my own hair! Layers included. Probably close to 4 years now. My hair is very long with natural beach waves. Hair stylists always ask me where I go to get my hair done because it’s a good cut. So I must be doing something right 😉

As a hair stylist I can almost always tell if someone has been cutting it themselves. The average person probably couldn’t tell if you’re just trimming and not doing anything drastic, though. I do it from time to time and even as a trained professional with tons of experience the next person to give me a trim will usually find a few uneven spots.
I’m realistic, I don’t expect every client to run in everytime they need a bang trim or a few spilt ends nipped. I think people with long hair can get away with easier than people people with shorter hair.
My advice if you really want to do it is to get an actual pair of hair cutting shears and don’t use them for anything else. I can’t tell you the number of jacked up bangs I’ve fixed that have been hacked at with a pair of kitchen scissors. lol

I’m happy to hear you say this! When I was trimming my own hair I was very self-concious of hairdressers getting upset that I tried to do it myself! And I agree witht scissors thing! I did exactly that once. Again it was in college… very late at night slightly tipsy decided it was a good idea to trim my bangs. grabbed the closest pair of scissors which were no. bueno. hahah Realized I had made a TERRIBLE mistake halfway through
