So far i have been in two weddings in my life. I love makeup and can say i am good with doing it on myself and most others. The first wedding I was in the girl also a bridemaid did mine and I hated it so I jazzed it up and she got mad. The second was my sisters wedding in which I did my own and hers and she accused me of making her look old (really she has very dry skin and doesnt moisurize swear). So I was considering doing my own. Thoughts, ideas, experiences? I dont mind hiring someone and know plenty of people but want it to turn out how i imagine. lol

I did my own. I had a disasterous makeup trial, and rather than pay for another one, I decided to drop $250 at Sephora and get all the expensive makeup I’d always wanted but never wanted to spend the money on. I’ve always been pretty good at doing my own makeup — it turned out well and I got to keep all of the makeup as a bonus.

I am a MUA and I have been having this same debate with myself. Really I dont think I am going to want to spend the time doing my own make-up, but I feel silly paying to do something I can do. I like the idea of just taking what I would pay someone else and just invest it in my own personal kit.
My best advice is that even though you are doing your own make-up you still will need to do trials. Test out colors and looks and write them down. That way when it is the big day you know exactly what you are using and where.

I’m planning on doing my own. I’ve seen too many girls look unrecognizable when they get their’s done, and I still want to look like me. I don’t think I look bad with my everyday make-up, but I am getting some new products like foundation (I use BB cream currently), waterproof mascara, and waterproof eyeliner, and will be watching some eye make up tutorials.
I just do not trust anyone to touch my face. I would rather look more natural than I think a make-up artist would make me look.

I plan on doing my own- I’ve been doing my own makeup for years and I’m pretty good at it.
Anytime I’ve had my makeup done by someone else, I hated it to the point of washing it off and redoing it myself.
I plan on going to maybe MAC or Sephora and getting a “lesson” (mostly to get them to show my how to do my eyes so they stand out a bit more in photos), then recreate it the day of the wedding myself.

I plan on doing my own too. I like to believe I’m pretty good at doing makeup and I’m pretty picky when it comes to others doing it so I might as well spend a few dollars on a couple things I dont have and save a lot of money and stress of trusting someone else with the brush.

I’ll be doing my own makeup. I don’t want to have a standard ”natural” makeup, but I fear a MUA will be doing too much if I ask for something more glamorous. I think I’m good doing my own makeup, I know the style I want, I can also watch tutorials online for inspiration and practice a few times before my wedding if I want, and the best thing is I can do all that in PJs at home and it’s absolutely free ! 😉

lolee82: I would not lol, I would be so stressed about it and honestly I don’t want to have to worry about anything the day of. You have enough going on. Just my opinion! I’ve had it done by a professional for the two weddings I have been in and it was soo nice.
Jealous of all the people who can do their own makeup though!!

I would not because I only know how to do minimal makeup.
I am not a woman who loves to wear a lot of slap so I think it would be better to have my face done by a professional.

I did my own make-up! No regrets, I looked the way I wanted to look on my wedding day- like myself. I’ve never liked the work of a MUA.

My sister paid to have hers airbrushed; she says she wouldn’t do it again. Too much money and it didn’t last. (Granted it was 90+ degrees and no AC…)
She did have a really good point though; She could have slurged on expensive makeup that WOULD last and done it herself and STILL have the makeup to take home. So, I will be going that DIY route. 🙂

lolee82: I would NEVER consider doing my own make-up, but I know I wouldn’t be great at it. During the winter I wear light middle-of-the-row makeup, so it doesn’t last all day. In the summer when I’m tan I’ll maybe throw on some mascara, other than that I don’t wear any.
I’m jealous of people who can do their own make-up and if you can, that’s great! I def do not trust myself!

You can always have a trial with someone and see how you feel. If you don’t like it, you can do it yourself. I had a trial that didn’t go well, so I have another planned with someone else in October. If this next trial doesn’t work out, I’m going to do mine myself because I know I can (I would just prefer not to). If you don’t mind doing it yourself, I say go for it! It’s a reason to buy yourself some new makeup that you really like, and you know for sure that you’ll look exactly the way you want to look!

I’d just like to start out by saying that I wear makeup everyday and have been wearing it for years, so I know what works for me and am fairly comfortablue with my makeup. For a really long time prior to my wedding, I convinced myself that I absolutely needed to have my makeup done, and that I wouldn’t truly feel relaxed and pampered on my wedding day if I didn’t get it professionally done. My first trial was an absolute disaster. I hated the way I didn’t look like myself. I was disappointed, to say the least. The second trial was an improvement, but still, I didn’t feel like I looked like me. Even my MIL told me that the makeup I do on myself was much better in comparison to the one that was done by a professional. That’s when I decided to do my own makeup for my wedding. I watched tons of YouTube videos, did several makeup trials and took pictures with a good camera in different lighting; I bought must-have products for the day of and took care of my skin by eating healthy and drinking tons of water. On the day of my wedding, i received tons of compliments on my makeup, and the professional pictures came out amazing! so for those who feel comfortable with makeup, I suggest saving some money and doing it yourself!
