I met my current BF (and soon to be FI) when I was with someone else who was no good for me. Whenever the song “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum came on the radio I would instantly think of him. After we got together I shared this song and its meaning with him and now he loves the song as much as I do. To this day, I still tear up when I hear it! I want to use this song for our first dance, it’s just so much of who we are and where we started! But, I don’t know if it’s going to be too… somber (that’s the best word I can think of) for a wedding. What do you bees think? And for those who think it won’t work, any suggestions?
I’m with the other bees, this may not be your best option for first dance song. I think you could incorporate it as a special dance later in the evening maybe?
THere’s another Lady Antebellum song called “when you got a good thing” check it out. Same artist, nice message. I also suggest plugging “Need you now” into pandora and see what it generates. I got a lot of good suggestions for my wedding from just creating stations and bookmarking songs.
The line “I’d rather hurt than feel nothing at all” is reminiscent of abusive relationships, which is another reason it’s really, really not a good fit for a wedding…being that clingy and needy (needing to be loved so badly you’re willing to feel pain to get it) is not a sign of healthy love!
@callirome – I think of the lyrics as describing a woman pining over a man. She calls him up after getting a little tipsy on her whiskey. She arrives at his place (or he comes by her place), they make out, and she goes home once again feeling the same emptiness she felt before. Sad…
I agree with the other posters about this song being too much of a booty call. However, I will suggest Lady Antebellum “When You Got A Good Thing”. It’s on their new CD and I fell in love instantly! We’re actually using it!
And I noticed you won’t be getting married until 2013..take it from me, there’ll be a million other songs that come out between now and then that will be a “perfect” first dance song. I’ve changed ours three times within six months! Lol
I’m not going to tell you whether to use it for your first dance or not because that’s a decision you have to make, but I did want to let you know there are worse songs you could associate with your true love. 🙂 When I was driving home from my wonderful first date with Fiance, a song I’d never heard before came on the radio – “Star Witness” by Neko Case. It’s not at all a romantic song, it’s actually terribly sad. But it’s so hauntingly beautiful, I fell in love with it instantly and to this day, I can’t listen to it without thinking about how amazing I felt that night.
