I would say no because it’s kind of a downer song. I’d be a little shocked if I heard it as a first dance at a wedding and would start trying to pick apart the lyrics and figure out if the couple was trying to tell the guests something…but then, I’m an English major, so I’m basically trained to rip words apart. 😛 I’d pick a more upbeat song, but ultimately, it’s your choice.

I agree with Mrs. Grape.  Now I do love the song you are talking about, but it is more about two people who want to be together but are not.

If you are going the counrty route maybe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6PfiLIJl84

The song is “Then” by Brad Paisley… its the song I hope to someday convince Boyfriend or Best Friend to dance with me to 🙂

I’m in the same boat at Mrs Grape.  Everytime I hear that song the words “drunk” and “guess I’d rather hurt than feel nothing at all” stick out to me and make me think the complete opposite of weddings.  Unless the rest of your guests know the story about your history, I wouldn’t use it.

Yeah, that song really reminds me more of an unhealthy relationship… like they are trying to stay apart but drunk booty call each other. It’s awesome that it has special meaning to you, and I am so not judging — my Fiance and I first danced to Brooks and Dunn’s “Neon Moon” and that is the biggest downer song ever. But we recognize that and won’t feature it prominently in our wedding, even if we have fond memories of it.

Yes I definitely will go with the country route, such amazing love songs.  My sister just got married in November and their first dance was to “You and Me” by Dave Matthews.  I am typically not a Dave Matthews song but I LOVED this!

Definitely worth listening too, will make you think about your SO!

Sorry, but “Need You Now” = Late night booty call.  Maybe you’ll find a more upbeat and personal song once your engaged.

I’m with the other bees, this may not be your best option for first dance song. I think you could incorporate it as a special dance later in the evening maybe?

THere’s another Lady Antebellum song called “when you got a good thing” check it out. Same artist, nice message. I also suggest plugging “Need you now” into pandora and see what it generates. I got a lot of good suggestions for my wedding from just creating stations and bookmarking songs.
