Back in late AUGUST I posted an Etsy Alchemy request for a particular cake topper I’d seen elswhere and wanted a reasonable facsimile of. Simple, elegant. So, I accepted a bid from a person who had good feedback and awesome stuff in her shop, as well as being very enthusiastic, very communicative, and reasonably priced, also offering a free gift with my purchase. Yay, right?!
Well my first mistake I guess was telling her I wasn’t in a hurry for it and that I’d be okay with getting the topper in or around November. I won’t bore y’all with the details but time passed and I got lots of excuses from her. I asked for pics and got excuses about that… “My husband has the camera”, or “Oops, no batteries”.. then something about the cake toppor coloring coming out wrong and she’d have to re-paint and then re-glaze, couldn’t get the glaze right away. You get the idea.
Recently I went back to etsy and looked at her feedback again and her once perfect feedback is now RIDDLED with non-receipt complaints and her shop is closed.
Finally (yes, NOW, I know, I was busy and put it off and still wanting to believe she’d come through!) I email her the 11th of this month, with an “enough is enough” email. I get profuse apologies promising it will be mailed THAT week and just needed glaze.
Well as you can imagine, I still don’t have it and she hasn’t answered my emails.
So I just sent her another email trying to guilt her into just giving me my money back. I don’t even want the thing anymore, it is going to piss me off every time I see it and it will have bad mojo now. I just want my $60 bucks. 🙁 It was so exciting, I was splurging on this item so we would have a custom topper representing our little family and something that would serve as an heirloom piece to display in our home long after the wedding. It was going to be perfect, and now I don’t want it becasue I feel like she’s a liar and since she is making it, I don’t want her “energy” in the thing in my house if you know what I mean.
Since it was so long ago I can’t get any help from PayPal I’m sure. Any other ideas? I know it’s “only” sixty bucks but damn, it’s the PRINCIPLE. She shouldn’t take on work she can’t follow through with!
Is this considered mail fraud? I am trying to think of other remedies I might take.
I’m just really angry from the perspective of a former ebay seller for over 15 years. I used to occasionally screw up big time and you know, some times I LOST money becauase if I messed up that bad I’d send the buyer their item AND a full refund, just to make it right. It’s called customer service!! It’s a shame, this person has a lot of talent but no business sense, apparently.
