I know this cliche advice but its your wedding and your family and if you want him at your wedding then forget what others say.   However, i can understand how you’d feel a little annoyed (maybe not the right word) at her for just assuming without asking your feelings on the matter first.

Wow – She was nervy saying that!

You don’t owe her or anyone an explanation on why you want your BROTHER at your wedding. I wouldn’t even justify her statement with a response.

No one is perfect. He’s your brother and who cares about his past.

I really can’t believe she said that! He is your brother, of course he is going to be at your wedding!

My dad was in prison for shooting someone in self defense…he was later acquited of all charges and released, but he was still in prison for 2 years awaiting trial….does that make him dangerous?  no.  Would I ever imagine getting married without him?  Absolutely not!!   he loves me and would never do anything at my wedding to hurt me or anyone at my wedding.  I say, don’t worry about what people think of your brother, he’s your brother, if you want him there, have him there!!

@bolita7:  I could undertand that for sure.  He is your brother and she didn’t take the time to listen first.  She should have listened and then if she still felt that way to gracefully voice concerns.

I think the term prision brings up certain connotations to most people that have no experience with it first hand, it can be a scary thing.  Perhaps if you explain what happened to your Future Sister-In-Law, she’d understand better.

I mean I don’t tell anyone that I have a brother that’s a two time federally convicted former inmate.  He’s violent, vile and the exact type of person that most people think of when you say, my brother’s been to prison.  We just don’t associate with him purely for personal safety, he’s tried too many things within our own family to warrant any more chances.  He’s also in his 50’s and is 20 years older then me.

Hopefully your brother with the help of your family will turn around!!
