(Closed) Thoughts on themed weddings?

    They're fun! I love them!

They're okay IF they're done right.

Only if it's something meaningful to the bride/groom.

    I think they're over-the-top and ridiculous.

    The obligatory "other."

DH and I got engaged in Venice and are both into Shakespear. A subtle Masquerade Ball theme seemed both appropriate and fun and we were both EXTREMELY pleased with the end result. I’m all for themes as long as they are relevant to the couple and are well-executed.

Oh and Fiance and I are having a book themed wedding: bookmarks doubling as escort cards and favours, books in the centerpieces, tables named after books.

I think it would be neat if I was into the same thing but if I wasn’t I would just be confused. For example, I wouldn’t even realize that there was a theme at a Game of Thrones wedding (or I just wouldn’t get it) but if it was a Harry Potter wedding I would be in heaven!

I used to read a blog for brides who consider themselves “offbeat,” but then figured out that offbeat = any kind of theme.  Huh?  Our wedding was marriage-themed!

I would love to have one if my budget allows me to do it in a non-cheesy way. HUGE Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones fan. I’m planning on wearing Arwen’s evenstar necklace (it’s just a beautiful piece of jewelry) and I might walk down the aisle to a song off the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. I think theme weddings are fun, when done right. Sometimes they can turn out too cheesy (outrageous costumes, ceremonies officiated by Storm Troopers, vows said in bad old english accents, etc. – too much out of my comfort zone). For me, personally, I’d scatter my theme throughout the whole wedding, but not overdo it with references that my guests who aren’t fans of the theme won’t understand.

@ForeverBirds:  ahhh!!! all the way on the bottom left of that picture is the Eilean Donan Castle!!! My SO lives about 4 hours away from that castle, and there is a HUGE possibility we are getting married there! I’ve wanted to get married there since I was 14, and SO jokes all the time that the only reason I’m with him is because he lives close enough to it to make it a reality haha… How could I NOT have some sort of medieval theme if I get married there?! Eilean Donan at night:

@ForeverBirds:  I would *love* a theme wedding, but his “dream wedding” involves a beach, and since I don’t have a clear vision like every other girl in the universe, I’m deferring to his, and there arent alot of themes that go with beach other than “beach.”

That being said, I’m getting free reign with the cakes (I’ll be making them) at the reception, and they will all probably have different horror themes 🙂

I love themes! I really like this GOT theme too, because it doesn’t seem like it’s idk the right word here….. theres not a Game of Thrones Cake with a fondant sculpture of Joffery or chair covers with the GOT logo or house signias on the back. It looks beautiful! I’d love to get married in that castle if I could.

@ForeverBirds:  LOL!!! Ned Stark’s head on a spike cake tops is hilarious! Maybe not for a wedding though…. not my wedding at least. Over the top would describe that for sure.

I’d really love to incorperate some sci-fi elements in my wedding, without it looking rediculous or out of place. But for the life of me I haven’t figured out how to do it. It’s hard for us fangirls to incorperate a theme without being too themey!

I love em!  And I really appreciate the creativity folks put into them.  A traditional white wedding is great too…but I’m a bit more out of the box myself 🙂
