I bought my wedding dress while I was back in England last month. The Maggie Sottero dress i chose was deffinatley THE ONE out of around 40 I tried on!
Now I’ve started thinking about a few practical ideas of the alterations. My fiance’s aunt who is aseamstress will be doing the alterations for us although she doesn’t have experience with bridal gowns. So, I want to have as strong an idea as possible of what will work best before the dress arrives in December. (Not to mention the problems we will have with the language barrier – 7 months to brush up my Italian sewing vocabulary!)
So, my first concerns are:
1 – sewn in pads: I have small boobs compared to my hips so have had to order a dress a few sizes too big on the chest. I don’t like the idea of strapless dresses that don’t move with you i.e. your boobs keep pointing forward when you turn your body to one side! What is the best kind of padding/support to add to the chest so that it still looks as natural as possible.
2 – bustle: One of my favourite features of the dress is the rouching and spreading of the train. There is a lot of material back there but it is very delicate and there aren’t any seems down the middle back. I’m wondering how best to bustle it for the reception. I’ve just done a bit of reasearch on bustles and found out about the Austrian bustle. Could this work with the chiffon layer and without a seem to hide the cord?
Any opinions or recomendations would be greatly appreciated,
