@loveus:  Me!  Sorry to disagree, and I’m happy to agree to disagree with you.  But I think gold shows off the sparkle of a clear stone (like diamond, white sapphire, mossanite, whatever) MUCH more than a silver colored metal (platinum, white gold, sterling silver).  To me the stones blend in so much more with a silver colored metal as opposed to gold which just sets it off and draws attention to it!

OT, general post:  For that reason I wanted gold.  He proposed without a ring, insisting as I had to wear it we find something I loved and he could at least tolerate.  But after looking around a bit he was reminded by his mother he had a ring free to do what we wanted with which lucky for me was gold.  So that was easy (at least to me, he’ll tell you if he knew it’d take that long to decide on and make the custom design he’d have just picked something lol, but he’s happy with the final product more than a year later so it all worked out).

He wanted a platinum wedding band originally, or white gold if platinum cost too much (which it looked like it would as he has large fingers) and I was fine with mixing metals, but he ended up getting his grandfathers wedding band (which is gold).  I didn’t care what metal the wedding band was but wanted it the same metal as his.  So we’ve got gold all around.

It really depends on skin tone and personal preference.  Gold or white gold… silver or gold metals look better with different skin tones.  So that’s a good reason to choose one over the other.  Also personal preference, what you like looking at or what you think looks better is what matters most!

You can always have completely different wedding bands, it doesn’t make you any less married.  But some, like me, like them to be the same metal and maybe even the same design.

Forget fashion… if you follow it you’ll be changing your rings out every 10 years (give or take).  I’m only 37 and I’ve seen gold come and go, and come and go again, and now it’s coming back.  Don’t bother trying to please anyone but you and your SO!

@memo1012:  I adore yellow gold, and it actually holds its value better than white gold. All my ‘good’ jewellery is yellow gold.

I actually read in a bridal magazine that yellow gold is ‘the big style for 2014’ and I was a bit miffed, since I’m getting married at the end of 2014 and don’t want to look like I was just hopping on a trend bandwagon when actually this is just the jewellery I’ve had for years!
