okay i haven’t seen it. i was intrigued, but then i wasn’t. mostly because it is 3 hours long and i keep hearing mixed reviews like this.
can someone compare it to the departed for me?
i loveeee the departed. and that was disturbing, but amazing.
@Billsgirl: I clicked on this thread knowing it would be about The Wolf of Wall Street lol.
I saw it with my parents and Fiance – we all really liked it. But I get why people could be offended by it, or not like it.
Not judging, but sorry, I just don’t get how people can see this movie, with their family or parents and not feel …..weird, dirty, embarassed. Maybe I’m just old school, but I wouldn’t even be able to have a conversation with them, after just watching a bunch of guys at an orgy sucking each other’s dicks with them sitting next to me….but that’s just me I suppose.
OP, you must not have been reading or listening to any reviews of that movie before seeing it, because the reviews very clearly state that it is basically 3 hours of sex and drugs.
A male friend of mine at work warned us all about this movie. He said there was nothing redeeming about it except the acting, and he’s far from prudish.
I didn’t find it disturbing. Keep in mind that the movie was trying to portray what life on Wall Street was like back in 1980-1990s. My dad’s friends used to work on Wall Street and they said the movie was an accurate depiction of what happened back then. Drugs and prostitutes were everyday occurrences. The only disappointing thing about the movie is that it continues to glorify Wall Street brokers, even those who dealt illegal trades.
Fiance and I walked out around 2.5 hours. I’m not a conservative person, so it wasn’t exactly the content… it was the use of it. It was just totally pointless. It had no heart. Even the most vulgar of movies usually have some sort of purpose or story to tell, where this movie just used vulgarlity for vulgarity’s sake. Pretty lame.
SPOILER
I also found the rape scene extremely upsetting. It was totally pointless. We already knew what a messed up dude this guy was… it seemed like someone threw that in there but didn’t truly understand the concept of marital rape.
NOT.
I enjoyed it and so did DH. Ya it’s vulgar, ya it’s filthy. So? Regular TV isn’t that much better.
@Billsgirl: I felt that way after watching Green Hornet.
£21 for two adult tickets and 3D glasses for that pile of crap. I’m still mad about it.
I’ll probably wait for DVD for Wolf of Wall Street, but I tend to get on with Scorsese’s style, and I really like DiCaprio, so I could be pleasantly surprised. I’ve been getting acquainted with Tarantino recently, so I can’t expect it to be any worse than some of that!
