I think it’s one of Leo’s best performances, although I’m not a fan of the movie.

@Billsgirl:   Yeah…it’s kind of disturbing to have to watch and orgy of men fucking each other and sucking each other’s dick…..I was nauseated after I saw that..

I don’t know if your comment comes from a place of homophobia or not, but if you’re so nauseated by explicit sex, then no wonder you’re having such a breakdown over this film.

I saw it Sunday afternoon with a packed theatre, and not a single person left. Lots of people clapped at the end, but us Canucks are pretty reserved. I haven’t been to many movies that ended with applause.

@Billsgirl:  DH watched this yesterday (via online download) and he LOVED it. Like, loved it a lot. I caught bits and pieces here and there and wasn’t incredibly impressed but could definitely think of movies I hate more (like Pineapple Express).

He also watched American Hustle and said it was good but liked Wolf on Wallstreet better. I guess to each their own!

I didn’t like it but yikes, what kind of movies are you watching that you’re this rattled by this one? It was long and boring, but it’s hardly anything new. A bunch of folks having sex, some boobs, and drugs. Maybe you should have read the book first to prepare?

@letigre:  Yeah, the two comments about how nauseating she found the scenes where men were having sex with men made me think the same thing.

wasn’t planning to see the movie anyway because the premise was so lame.

Also do not like Dicaprio in a lead role (sorry don’t find him the superhunk he’s supposed to be… at all).

@Billsgirl:  I thought it was a fantastic film, beautifully acted, about a descent into the depths of depravity. The films graphic scenes covered that reality with a disturbing accuracy. Brilliant film though, script and acting.

@Billsgirl:  Well I understand the conservative comment because in reality, it was a very well-done film, although people with more conservative tastes might be offended by it.

@letigre:  +1000. I find this whole thread to be reeking of conservatism and prudishness.

@Billsgirl:  You sound weirdly homophobic, and also like you were raised to think sex is bad and nasty. I would not be proud of yourself to hold such views. Lots of people liked it.

@letigre:  +1000.  I’m really surprised (especially if the OP just saw the movie) that she had no idea that it was going to be pretty debaucherous. And now it’s pretty clear where a lot of the disgust is coming from…

I liked it, I thought it went on a little too long at the end, but I was pretty entertained.  Of course the beginning scene made me feel a teeny bit awkward, but I was just like ok I guess we’re diving right in!

@VictoriaK1990:  can’t speak to homophobia issues at all (didn’t even know the movie had relevant themes about that) but I HATE Hollywood soft porn…. what on earth has that to do with my healthy sex life?

Hollywood soft porn =/= sex
